Sunday December 18 : K-Pet League 1- white Group : Venue: Esentepe Erdal Barut Stadium.

Esentepe KKSK  -v- Doğancı SK

By Richard Beale…..

Doğanci played the perfect Christmas Scrooge giving away nothing, whereas Esentepe took on the role of Father Christmas handing out 2 gifts to the opposition.

Being a Sunday and bitterly cold, with other attractions of hunting and warm Sunday roasts on offer, the crowd was probably the smallest so far this season. Injuries once again forced Esentepe into changes with central defender Firat missing with a broken nose, was replaced by Mehmet Bebek, making his first full League appearance for Esentepe. Good news for the Club. Uğurcan now recovered from a hamstring injury returned to the side in place of teenager Emre Soytürk.

With the recent rains the pitch on each of the wings was very boggy. The teams took a while to adapt to the muddy conditions, and the opening 20 minutes were a scrappy affair.

The conditions played a part in Doğanci taking the lead in the 28th minute when a long ball on the left was about to be intercepted by Mehmet Bebek, but the debutant defender slipped in the mud allowing Burç to fasten onto the ball. The winger strode into the area and before an Esentepe defender could make a challenge, he placed a perfect shot past the advancing Ali, to score a well taken goal. 0-1.

Esentepe hit back in the 38th minute when İlyas found Eser on the left, who cut inside past his marker before firing in a 30 yard shot, which was tipped onto the bar and over by the Doğanci keeper Emre.

From the resulting corner that was cleared the game turned with a controversial incident. Can breaking with the ball was cynically brought down by Esentepe’s Hüseyin a typical “professional foul” you see in a lot of games. Hüseyin as they say “took one for the team” but referee Serdar saw it differently red carding the Esentepe player. The referee was surrounded by angry, jostling Esentepe players, also the crowd were on their feet hurling abuse at the under pressure official. Esentepe’s Assistant Coach Bariş raced onto the pitch and had to be restrained by 4 or 5 Policeman, he was ejected but came into the spectator area where he continued his tirade and rant. Several spectators also tried to climb the fence as anger reached boiling point. Eventually Hüseyin left the arena and order was restored. Personally a definite yellow card never a red. HALF TIME : 0-1

In the 47th minute it was Esentepe’s goalkeeper Ali donning on the red Father Christmas suit when another present was handed to Doğanci. Ali normally one of the best keepers around in his own area, has “rushes’ of blood when he goes on one of his “walkabouts” outside the box. A long ball out saw Ali racing outside his area to clear the ball, but all he ended up doing was to chest the ball to Burç standing 40 yards out, looking up seeing an unguarded net, he put in a precision lob into the empty net . A killer and very deflating goal to give away so soon after the break. 0-2.

With nothing to lose, Esentepe played with 3 at the back and piled men forward in a spirited comeback. Top scorer Tacettin came close only to be robbed at the last minute by keeper Emre. Esentepe had the ball in the Doganci net after 60 minutes through Başak, but it was struck off for handball.

Then another good Esentepe move saw substitute Emre Soytürk put over a good cross from the right, which found Eser at the far post who nodded the ball to Tacettin who saw his close range effort cleared off the line. It was all Esentepe despite being a man short they continued to string together some fine moves.

In the 75th minute the numbers were evened up as striker Cemre Paşa was red carded for a second bookable offence.

Tacettin again threatened Emre’s goal this time bringing him into action in the 82nd minute with a diving save.

88 minutes in an almighty scramble in the Doğanci goalmouth, Tacettin had one close range effort parried by Emre and with the rebound saw his shot cleared off the line again. FULL TIME : 0-2.

SUMMING UP : It was never going to be in Sunday’s game giving away 2 goals, playing with 10 men for 35 minutes, Esentepe gave themselves too big a mountain to climb. The second goal was the “killer” if that didn’t go in I think Esentepe would have comeback to save and possibly win the match. On another day Tacettin would have scored at least 2 goals, lady luck has finally caught up with Esentepe. It was pleasing to see the fightback in the second half, heads did not drop, it was just not their day. Esentepe best player was Ilyas who making up for his departed partner Huseyin did his utmost to try and bring Esentepe back into the game.

Despite having a player sent off in the 20th minute, Doğanci went into the break with a 2 goal lead. They lost another player red carded in the 62nd minute, and then it was all Esentepe who made a number of changes in the second half to run out worthy winners. Substitute HÜRKAN GÖRNEÇLI scored a hat trick with goals in the 55, 79, and 86 minutes. EFE CAN AÇIKPORTAKALI continued his recent excellent scoring form by adding Esentepe’s equalising goal in the 78th minute.
