If this was a game of Monopoly, Esentepe would have used up their “get out of jail” card as Karşiyaka belittling their lowly position they gave the the League Leaders a thorough going over.
For most of the match Esentepe were on the backfoot as Karsiyaka “hustled and bustled” not allowing the visitors to settle. Karşiyaka missed a penalty in the 55th minute and it was only after that miss did some of the home team players heads drop.
On a glorious sunny afternoon, most of the Esentepe support occupied the small main stand, whereas the home support were gathered like vultures around the grassy bank above the dug outs.
Karşiyaka settled quickly as Esentepe defenders were having difficulty with the strong breeze and sun. The home side threatened when the tricky Berk outstripped Ugurcan down the right, squared the ball across goal where Ismet sliced his shot on to the top of the Esentepe bar.
16 mins : İlyas in a rare Esentepe attack put in a strong shot which was punched away by the Karsiyaka keeper Gültekin.
19 mins : Following another quick Karşiyaka break Turan miss hit his shot that was almost deflected into his own goal by Nersin.
21 mins : Berk who was tormenting the visitors defence, set out on a zigzag run before squaring the ball across to Turan who needed two attempts to prod the ball past Ali. Luckily for Esentepe the goal was disallowed for offside, much to the annoyance of the home support.
Ali in the Esentepe goal was in constant action again saving at the far post from Turan.
At last Esentepe in the 23rd minute showed some class from a Hüseyin corner Firat sent a header goalwards which was palmed away by Gültekin to Eser who sent a fierce shot against the Karsiyaka bar.
27 mins : Esentepe’s Umar was caught in possession, letting in the dangerous Berk who squared the ball across to Bayram but again Ali came to Esentepe’s rescue coming quickly out of his goal to block the effort.
30 mins : Very much against the run of play Esentepe took the lead, Tacettin was fouled on the right from the quick short free kick to Umar who put over a perfect cross for ESER to head past Gültekin. 0-1.
Then Tacettin holding the ball up well eluded his markers, sent a shot just over.
Esentepe suffered a severe blow losing the combatative Uğurcan in the 44th minute with a hamstring injury to be replaced by Mahmut
Ali then in injury time continued to thwart Karşiyaka pulling off a fine diving save from a Serdar free kick: HALF TIME : 0-1.
Karşiyaka carried on where they left off from the first half after a number of shots were charged down Tufan hit a hard volley forcing Ali in to yet another fine save.
55 mins : With Esentepe’s Muhammed lying injured Ismet made progress on the left he cut inside and crossed the ball which struck Firat’s hand and a penalty was given. İsmet took the kick himself crashing his shot against Ali’s right hand post, Esentepe had used their “get out of jail” card.
Esentepe might have had a penalty themselves in the 65th minute when following a Başak cross, goalkeeper Gültekin hesitated when challenged by Tacettin, who got his head to the ball, but appeared to be held back by the goalkeeper. No penalty was given, much to the anger of the Esentepe support who were up on their feet.
Karşiyaka had at last looked like they had run out of steam as Esentepe began to regain the initialtive. A fine attack involving Umar and Başak set up an angle shot from Tacettin which brought a good diving save from goalkeeper Gültekin.
77 mins: Berk wasnt quiet for long firing a shot just past Ali’s post.
This was Karşiyaka last goalmouth threat as Esentepe began to show their class and made the game safe in the 87th minute. Tacettin did well despite the attention of 3 defenders to hold the ball up near the corner flag and win a throw in. From that throw in the ball went to İLYAS who strode into the area before unleashing a tremendous shot which screamed past Gültekin. 0-2.
In injury time Esentepe almost made it three when substitute Mehmet Bebek’s miss hit shot was deflected onto the bar by Tacettin.
As the full time whistle went a few disgruntled Karşiyaka supporters vented their anger to the home teams Coach Yusuf Tek, which I thought was not justified as his team gave their best for him. On the other hand Esentepe supporters were in a jubilant mood. FULL TIME : 0-2
SUMMING UP :
Still League Leaders, still unbeaten, still only conceded 1 goalwhich was from a penalty. How we got away with it in this match I will never know, when everything is going for you it does. Lady luck is definitely with Esentepe at the moment. Karşiyaka were desperately unlucky not to get something out of this game, if only the penalty hadn’t struck the post. Karşiyaka is a difficult place to get to and not many teams will come back with points. Esentepe probably won only 40% of the match, but credit to them the spirit of team helped them get by in this match. The match came at a cost for Esentepe with both Uğurcan and Muhammed having to leave the field with injuries. Goalkeeper Ali had more to do in this match as he had in the previous 4 matches. The back 4 in previous matches had built a impregnable shield around him, when this was breeched today ALI was there doing his job, hence he was Esentepe “man of the match”.

Same result for the youngsters as the senior side and also to make in a great weekend for Esentepe both terams are now top of their respective leagues.
DOGUKAN VAHIT GÜNES scored both goals for the young team in the 56 and 75 minutes. Just one disappointment Izzet was red carded in the 87 minute.
