Saturday 29th October 2016 : K-Pet League 1 White Group : Venue : Esentepe Erdal Barut Stadium

Esentepe KKSK -v- Ozanköy SK

A super strike from Esentepe forward Eser Kan, which would have graced any stadium in the world earned Esentepe a point after Ozanköy had taken an earlier lead from the penalty spot.

The first home League match of the season drew a very large crowd, certainly one of the biggest attendances I have seen for a number of years. Ozanköy brought with them a large following, also in attendance were quite a few ExPats, and nobody in the crowd would have gone home disappointed as Esentepe and Ozanköy produced a very entertaining match.

Esentepe were the better team in the opening 15 minutes, but they could have easily fallen behind following a quick Ozanköy break In the 18th minute Esentepe’s Nersin missed his tackle letting in dangerman Bekir Yildiz who cut inside with only Ali to beat, but the striker miss hit his shot straight at Ali. .

Against the run of play Ozankoy took the lead in the 39th minute through a harshly awarded penalty. Firat went in high on Ali Kopca who went to ground and referee Emre awarded a penalty. The incident looked to be just outside the box, which was later confirmed to me by Firat, we will have to see on Graham’s video if it was in or out. Anyway the penalty was dispatched away by Bekir sending Ali the wrong way.0-1

Esentepe should have equalised just before the break following a “route 1” kick from goalkeeper Ali, Tacettin showing good anticipation, managed to get a foot to the ball, but it went straight to goalkeeper Mehmedemin who easily saved the effort.

So Esentepe who were the better team in the first half went into the break a goal down.

The opening minutes of the second half became very scrappy with Ozanköy clearly employing tactics to slow down the game. In the 54th minute the game burst into life following a brilliant Esentepe counter attack, Uğurcan on the edge of his own area, won the ball with a strong tackle and made progress upfield finding Başak, who with great vision saw Tacettin’s run into the play area, played a great ball to him. The Esentepe striker did everything right shooting over Mehmedemin only to see it cannon off the post and to safety.

Esentepe Mahmut subjected to 2 heavy tackles in a space of a couple of minutes hobbled off to be replaced by Emre Soytürk in the 60th minute.

Ozanköy missed a good chance of increasing their lead, with a quick break firstly involving Hüseyin who found Bekir, who teed up Muhammed Nazik who shot well over from a good position.

In the 65th minute an Umar free kick was headed out to Eser who sent a fierce shot over the bar.

Esentepe were becoming frustrated and looking a little bit weary when in the 68th minute they equalised. There seemed no danger when ESER on the left picked the ball up and suddenly let fly with a rocket shot which beat the diving Mehmedemin and finished up in the top corner of the net. A wonderful goal. The crowd erupted, one of those goals you don’t see very often, will stay in the memory of the supporters who were there for a long time. 1-1.

Esentepe almost sent their supporters home happy when they had the ball in the Ozanköy net deep into injury time. Following another breathtaking move involving Başak and Tacettin, ended with the striker squaring the ball across the area to the unmarked Uğurcan who slotted the ball past Mehmedemin. Again the crowd and me were on their feet in celebration, but the linesman adjudged that Uğurcan was offside and the goal was disallowed. Another one to see on Graham’s video as some supporters said that Ugurcan was at least 6 feet on side, FULL TIME :1-1

A very entertaining match, Ozanköy Coach will be the happier of the two Coaches as I see this match as 2 points lost rather than 1 point gained. Ozankoy provided stiff opposition, but Esentepe had at least 3 clear cut chances which they should have put away. However they remain unbeaten and you can see the difference in Esentepe’s play this season, as they are playing the “Manchester City” way building from the back. HÜSEYIN “RAUL” ERMIŞ was Esentepe’s best player. He had another outstanding match in midfield showing calmness and vision, equally supported by Uğurcan who had his normal ‘all action’ match.

ESENTEPE TEAM : (4-4-1-1, replacements in brackets, merit marks out of 10)
