Creditwest 2016 Autumn Cricket League first match held between Cyprus Lions vs Near East University at the Catalkoy ground.

 

The visitors Near East University Captain Raja Sarmad lost the toss against the Cyprus Lions Captain, Imran Bajwa but didn’t lose his confidence. The Lions openers were in good form, to make a very good start for their team and soon the Lions were 80 runs with the loss of only two wickets. The only successful batsmen were opener Muhammad Arshad and second down Muhammad Farhan who were able to build a great partnership, but none of the Lions’ batsmen could stay at the crease and dramatically, the Lions were only able to provide 106 runs target for NEU. The top bowler from NEU was Muhammad Adeel who took 3 wickets for only 24 runs.

In reply, Near East opener batsmen Muhammad Adeel and Masror Ahmed looked in a hurry to chase the 106 runs total, when Muhammad Adeel did some hard hitting and made 50 runs, with the help of four sixes and two fours. Muhammad Adeel’s hard hitting helped NEU batsmen, second down Talha Aamir and Sohail Raja to finish the game in only 11.3 overs with 7 wickets in hand. It was great comeback for NEU, after losing their first match against the Gentlemen of Girne last week, and big upset for the Creditwest Autumn cricket league that Lions has lost their second match.

It was 12:30 when the crowed started coming into the stadium, as everybody was waiting for 1.00pm and the big match and a great battle between Middle East Technical University vs Eastern Mediterranean University. EMU has faced METU twice but failed both times in previous Creditwest league matches.

METU captain Muzammil won the toss and elected to bat first. METU had a shaky start, when METU opener Mazz Ben Furqan was LBW in the second over of the match, for only five runs. METU looked in trouble, when they were eleven runs with the loss of one wicket. Majid Khan was the bowler who took the wicket for EMU. It was an outstanding performance from the EMU bowlers and METU were in deep trouble, when Mayed Hussain clean bowled the captain of METU Muzammil for only nine runs and the second wicket fell down at only seventeen runs, and after that none of the METU batsmen could stand against the EMU warriors bowling attack and METU were all bowled out for only 61 runs in fifteen overs. Top bowler from EMU was EMU captain Sohail Kilji with three wickets for sixteen runs in four overs.

In reply to sixty one runs, which is the lowest total score in the Creditwest Autumn Cricket League until now, The EMU openers Captain Sohail Kilji and Majid Khan were highly confident, and attacked the METU bowler and completely trashed the METU attack. It only took seven overs for EMU to chase sixty one runs total, with the loss of no wickets. The Captain of EMU Sohail Khilji attacking performance, scoring forty runs, with the help of six fours and 2 massive sixes. On the other end Majid Khan supported his Captain, eleven runs, with help of one six and one four, which confirmed the EMU warriors second victory confirmed in the Creditwest Autumn Cricket League 2016.
