Yıldırım to visit the TRNC today
Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım is arriving in Cyprus for an official visit today.
Yıldırım, who is paying his first official visit to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus today will be received by Prime Minister Hüseyin Özgürgün with an official ceremony at Ercan airport and then Yıldırım will start his visits.
First, Yıldırım will be received by President Mustafa Akıncı and a joint press conference will be held following the meeting.
Yıldırım will be received also by the Speaker of the Assembly Sibel Siber and then he will meet with Prime Minister Hüseyin Özgürgün at the Prime Ministry. Following the meeting, delegations meeting will be held.
Hüdaoğlu: “”Negotiations are currently in damaged condition”
Stating that ongoing negotiations on the Cyprus problem have been damaged because of the artificial crisis created by the Greek Cypriot leader and that something has to be done to overcome the crisis, Presidential Undersecretary Gürdal Hüdaoğlu said: “In this regard, responsibility considerably belongs to Anastasiades.”
Speaking on a program, Hüdaoğlu reminded that President Akıncı made a statement concerning speeding up the process, returning to the table and the issues should be discussed once again. Hüdaoğlu added “We hope to receive a positive response from the Greek Cypriot Leader”.
Hüdaoğlu stressed that the attitude of the Greek Cypriot Leader Anastasiades will be very important to overcome the crisis created in İstanbul.
Expressing “We want to know if the attitude of Anastasiades is merely impulsive behaviour or a part of a long term strategy”, Hüdaoğlu emphasized that it is essential to focus on a solution target in 2016 adding that President Akıncı has no other aim apart from a solution.
Akıncı and Anastasiades will attend the event for children at the buffer zone tomorrow
President Akıncı and the Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Anastasiades will attend an event which will be organized by the Bi-communal Technical Committee on Education for Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot children for the first time.
At the event, which was created by the decision of the leaders, a total of nearly 100 Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot children of the ages 11-12 will come together at the Home for Cooperation at the buffer zone in Nicosia.
The event is also supported by Cyprus Turkish Teachers Union and POED Teachers Union from South Cyprus. The aim of the event is to help the development of inter-communal understanding, to improve mutual understanding between participants and to allow the children to get to know each other better with musical and artistic activities.
The water from Turkey will have a 3 day trial from 1st June
Agriculture and Natural Resources Minister Nazım Çavuşoğlu announced that the water has reached the island within the framework of the TRNC Water Supply Project and will be transmitted to Lefkoşa, Gazimağusa, Hamitköy and Tepebaşı for trial purposes for three days from today (1st June).
In his written statement Çavuşoğlu stated that they are consistently holding contacts with the officials from Turkey regarding the water issue and conveyed the concerns of municipalities on the matter. Çavuşoğlu noted that in order to overcome these concerns, the status of the municipalities should be specified.
