It was a beautiful morning on Sunday 8 May 2016 , with plenty of sunshine at Alsancak Stadium, The Gentlemen of Girne and Cyprus Stars have both established reputations as two of the finest teams in the Creditwest cricket league .
Cyprus Stars won the toss and elected to bat first . Opening batsmen Fasial Bongia and Bajwa made a slow start, but Fasial Bongia stayed the course and, having already lost eleven wickets for 29, Cyprus Stars achieved 50 runs in the next five overs with the loss of only two wickets [Fawad Alaam being dismissed for only 7].
The Gentlemen of Girne faced an uphill battle preventing Cyprus Stars from scoring runs and the poor performances of The Gentlemen bowlers allowed them to make a total of 145 runs in only 16.4 overs. Shahzad Malik was still the top Bowler from Gentlemen. 5 wickets for 21 runs give in four overs. Cyprus Stars ‘ top scorers were Bajwa [including 2 fours and 2 sixes] Firobs Iqbal, who made 23 runs [including 2 fours and 1 six]. Their top bowler proved to be Qasir.
In reply to their opponents’ 145 runs, The Gentlemen of Girne made a very bad start, losing their first two wickets for only two runs in first over of the match, 2nd down Naveed Shah came to rescue gentlemen with Sohail Khan, Gentlemen were consistently losing wickets, which was not helping the situation but it was completely Cyprus Stars day, The Gentlemen were all out in 19.5 overs, having made a total of only 71 runs, top scorer was Janwali Khan 24 runs, A disappointing day for The Gentlemen of Girne, especially as they have previously notched up far more respectable scores in the past. But Cyprus Stars were the better team on the day! The Gentlemen of Girne thus lost only their second match in the season in the Creditwest cricket league 2016.
