Akıncı to go to Germany today
President Mustafa Akıncı is going to Germany today upon the official invitation of the German Foreign Minister Frank Walter Steinmeier.
The main agenda topic of the President’s visit to Germany is the “Cyprus issue and the Turkish Cypriot people’s determination for a solution on the island”.
President Mustafa Akıncı will hold contacts in Berlin today, tomorrow and on Wednesday and will also meet with the German Foreign Minister Frank Walter Steinmeier.
Akıncı will depart from Germany on Wednesday, 13 April to go to İstanbul where he will attend the 13th Session of the Islamic Summit Conference which is being held in İstanbul between the dates of 14-16 April.
President Akıncı is expected to return to the island after his İstanbul contacts.
Akıncı gave an interview to Deutsche Welle
Speaking to Germany’s International broadcasting corporation Deutsche Welle before his visit to Germany, President Mustafa Akıncı made evaluations regarding the Cyprus issue, relations with Turkey and the EU and his visit to Germany.
President Akıncı stated that the main agenda topic of his visit to Germany will be the “Cyprus issue and the Turkish Cypriot people’s determination for a solution on the island.
Akıncı, “Germany is an important country and also one of the leading countries of the European Union. Therefore, I think the dialogue which will be conducted in the leadership of Germany concerning the Cyprus problem and the Turkish Cypriots is important due to Germany’s special position.”
Leaders to meet on Tuesday 19th April
President Mustafa Akıncı and the Greek Cypriot Leader Nikos Anastasiades will meet on Tuesday 19th April.
The meeting will be held at the building allocated by the UN for the negotiations in the buffer zone within the framework of the ongoing negotiations in order to find a solution to the Cyprus problem.
Nuland to visit Cyprus on 19th April
Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs at the U.S. State Department Victoria Nuland is expected to come to the island on 19th April and she will meet with the leaders on the island at this time.
