Negotiators to discuss subjects to prepare the Turkish Cypriot side for EU harmonization process
Turkish Cypriot Negotiator Özdil Nami and the Greek Cypriot Negotiator Andreas Mavroyannis will pay a one-day visit to Brussels today within the framework of preparation of the Turkish Cypriot side on the EU harmonization process following a settlement.
During the Brussels contacts, Nami and Mavroyannis will hold contacts at the technical level as part of the work being carried out by the Ad Hoc committee established upon the instructions of the two leaders to prepare the Turkish Cypriot community for the Acquis communautaire (the EU law and regulations). Officials from the UN will also be present during the meetings of the negotiators with the officials of the EU Commission.
Four Ministers to visit Ankara for the water issue
Four Ministers of the Cabinet will go to Ankara on Monday in order to hold contacts regarding the water issue.
The government’s proposal regarding the management of the water had been approved by the officials of Turkey earlier. Upon the invitation of Turkey on this development, Finance Minister Birikim Özgür, the Minister of Economy, Industry and Commerce Sunat Atun, the Minister of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Food Erkut Şahali and the Minister of Public Works and Environment Kutlu Evren will pay a two-day visit to Ankara in order to finalize the deal on the water transfer project.
The Ministry of Health: “No ‘Aedes’ type mosquito in our country”
The Ministry of Health announced that the Zika virus and the mosquitoes that cause the virus alerted by the World Health Organization (WHO) have not been seen on the island so far.
In the written statement of the Ministry, it was stressed that the Zika virus which is transmitted by the ‘Aedes’ type of mosquito have not been seen either in North or South Cyprus so far and it was emphasized that the Larvacide method which has been in progress in the island for many years for the fight against malaria is effective in all species of mosquitoes. It was also indicated that the method proposed by the WHO in order to fight this disease is being fully implemented in the country.
The restoration works of the Gamblers’ Inn will be completed at the end of February
It was announced that the ongoing restoration works of the Gamblers’ Inn will be completed soon and the Inn will be opened at the end of February. The shops inside the Gamblers’ Inn will be hired with a tender and will be opened in early March.
Tourism Minister Sucuoğlu examined the restoration works on site and said that works in the area are almost completed. Minister Sucuoğlu emphasized that the third stage of the restoration work was completed within a short period of time – two and a half months.
Furthermore, Sucuoğlu stated that the use of the Inn will be under the control of the Tourism Ministry for 12 years.
Chamber of Industry to attend Fair in Berlin
TRNC is attending Fruit Logistica 2016 – Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Fair, with the organization of the Cyprus Turkish Chamber of Industry, which is being held in Berlin, Germany.
Four TRNC companies are participating in the fair. During the 3-day fair, participants will be finding opportunities to form new business contacts, as well as developing relationships with the existing customers. 65,000 professional business persons are expected to visit the fair which has 2,700 participants from 120 different countries.
International Conference on Environmental Security in the Mediterranean
The “International Conference on Environmental Security in the Mediterranean” which is hosted by the Eastern Mediterranean University, Business and Economics Faculty, Business Department, Public Administration Program with the support of Ankara University, Faculty of Political Science, Environment and Regional Administration Policies Program was commenced yesterday.
Academicians, politicians and scientists from the TRNC, Turkey and Turkish Republics are attending the two-day conference. Demographic, economic, politic, social, cultural, ecological and climatic factors that negatively affect the coastal areas and marine environment of the Mediterranean are being discussed at the conference.
