New Years Eve Swim in aid of Tulips/HTWCA
Today the sun is starting to shine over Cyprus after the past few wet and gloomy days and we are pleased to share this chilly but heart warming report from Sue Tilt and Carole King of Help Those With Cancer Association (Tulips)
“Hi,
Well 31st December was without a doubt the coldest day of this winter to date, the temperature had dropped the previous night, providing by 11am a chilly 8C with a strong wind coming off the sea but ……. our 9 hardy swimmers, now renamed the ‘Tulips Chilly Dippers’, braved the elements and dipped their toes (and their bodies) into the very rough sea all to raise money and awareness for Tulips/HTWCA.
To the support crowd who turned up on New Years Eve, we thank you very much. Approximately 60 of you turned up to give the swimmers encouragement and support, which on such a bitterly cold day meant a huge amount to all who ‘dipped’ and a big thank you also to all those lovely people who sponsored the swimmers for Tulips.
We would also like to thank Jackie Pennington who organised this year’s swim; Un Bitlis, owner of The Fly Inn who cleaned up the beach ready for the swimmers; Akpinar Patisserie and Dano Patisserie for providing (free of charge) pastries to go along with the mulled wine which was made and provided by Jenny Brown.
Our special thanks have to go to all the brave swimmers: Jackie Pennington, Un Bitlis, Shelagh Bolton, Duncan Leitch, Tig MacKenzie, Gary Neill, Steve Foster, Sue Tong and Steve Owen.
There will be a special presentation on Friday 15th January 2016 at The Fly Inn at 7pm where the total amount raised will be announced (this gives everyone time to hand over any sponsorship monies owing to the swimmers!)
We have to say a huge thank you to all concerned, this kind of support and commitment, despite the circumstances is what keeps us all going.
Wonderful people.
Sue and Carole”
