2015 Poppy Appeal results
We have received the following wonderful news of the result of the 2015 RBL Poppy Appeal which exceeded all previous events. Well done RBL and all its supporters.
RBL Kyrenia Branch Poppy Appeal 2015
The committee of the RBL Kyrenia Branch are delighted to announce the record breaking results of the 2015 Poppy Appeal. The branch Poppy Appeal Officer Adele Thomas said: “We have really gone for it this year with over 55 poppy collection boxes placed around restaurants and bars throughout the north and the local community has responded magnificently and we can now reveal that the final figure raised is £16,724. This is a staggering 40% plus up on last year’s previous record of £12,000 and would have been over £19,000 if we were to apply last year’s exchange rate. This money will go to assist welfare cases both in the UK and here in the TRNC. Indeed only last week we purchased medals lost in the events of 1974 for several ex-members of the Cyprus Regiment. I would like to thank each and every person who has assisted the appeal albeit from donations, by gaining sponsorship or by organising events on our behalf.”
Branch Chairman Brian Thomas said: “To say that I am chuffed is an understatement and once again we are humbled by the generosity of the TRNC community. The poppy symbol is now our well-known and respected trademark within the expat and local community alike. We would like to thank one and all but particularly our main sponsor Creditwest bank that stands by us side by side.
A very merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year to all our branch members, we will have a well-earned break now to recharge the batteries and our committee will return refreshed as we enter our fifth year of existence for hopefully another successful period in 2016.”
