Lacklustre Esentepe Lose

Again At The

Atatürk Stadium

Saturday 7 November 2015

News report from Rich’s Sport………

Result : Göçmenköy Iysk 2 Esentepe Kksk 1

Once again the Atatürk Stadium continues to be a “bogey” Stadium for Esentepe, as they went down by the odd goal in three to rivals Göçmenköy. In the time I have been following Esentepe, I have never ever seen them win, draw or even play well at the Country’s National Stadium, Saturday’s match was no exception.

Details : Saturday 7 November 2015-K-Pet League 1- venue Atatürk Stadium.

Göçmenköy Colours : blue/red halved shirts. Blue shorts/socks.

Esentepe Colours : Red/white check shirts/ black shorts/socks.

Weather: Warm and sunny.

The giant Atatürk Stadium, was empty/lifeless and lacking in any atmosphere, which summed up the poor fare offered by both teams in the first half. The half contained very few thrills and it was littered with niggley fouls as both teams struggled to find any rhythm on the wide pitch.

Esentepe’s only real effort came in the 32nd minute when following a free kick on the left taken by Emek, Eser sent a glancing header wide at the near post. In reply just before the break, following a corner which was partially cleared, Göçmenköy’s Kemal screwed his shot horribly wide, when he should have done better. HALF-TIME : 0-0.

The start of the second half was in stark contrast to the first half as we had more excitement in the opening 15 minutes as we had in the entire first half.

Göçmenköy’s Suat strode forward as the defence backed off and had a shot blocked where it rebounded to Engin who hammered a shot in, which brought a diving save from Esentepe’s keeper Serkan.

Unfortunately the keeper was at fault when Göçmenköy took the lead in the 50th minute. Esentepe conceded a free kick on the left. The kick came in to the far post, Serkan came for the ball but missed it and it hit his shoulder, rebounded back across goal to Mehmet Gezer to prod in. Poor Goalkeeping and defending all round. 1-0.

Five minutes later Göçmenköy were 2 goals up, from a stunning goal from Arda Sözcü. After an Esentepe attack was broken up Arda fastened onto the ball and made progress towards the Esentepe goal, and from a full 30 yards he smashed a shot which keeper Serkan thought was going over, but the shot dipped just below the bar and into the net. A great goal, which in fairness to Serkan I don’t think he could have saved it even if he’d dived for it. 2-0.

These two goals eventually woke Esentepe from their slumber and they hit back with a well taken goal by ESER KAN in the 58th minute. Burak wide on the left sent in a high cross, where Eser at the near post headed down the ball and into the net. 2-1.

Esentepe now had the bit between their teeth, as they produced their best spell of the match. From a missed kicked clearance Eser out jumped Döguş and headed over. Then after 71 minutes, Esentepe had a penalty appeal for handball turned down by referee Hüseyin Özkan, after good work on the right by Umar, whose cross appeared to have hit a hand. Esentepe players appealed for the handball, but it was turned down, much to the amazement of the angry Esentepe players, especially Kaan who was booked.

Esentepe Coach Gokan Kim, made a double substitution in the 75 minute, taking off Umar and Burak replacing them with Aziz and Muhammed.

Esentepe missed a fine chance to equalise in the 78th minute, when a Mahmut free kick found Vurkan unmarked in the box, but the midfielder volleyed high over the bar. A number of Esentepe players put their hands on top of their heads in despair at an opportunity missed.

Sensing that Esentepe heads had dropped and that they had begun to lose heart and shape, Göçmenköy stormed back into the game, seeking that killer 3rd goal. 80 minute Suat volleyed just wide and in the 90th minute, following a quick break with a 3 on 2 situation Suat squared the ball across goal and substitute Taner hit the Esentepe post. FULL TIME : 2-1.

SUMMING UP :

Esentepe are still without that elusive first win, Saturday’s performance was in stark contrast to the performance that the team put in against leaders Girne Halk Evi last week with 10 men. It seemed that match had drained the players and apart from a 20 minute spell it was a lack lustre performance. The good news is for the first time in 3 matches Esentepe finished the match with 11 players and for next week’s match against neighbours Gorneç, the Coach should have a full squad to chose from. Esentepe, as I write are still 4th from bottom, and the bottom 4 are in danger of being cut lose from the rest of the teams. The Goalkeeping position and scoring goals remain key problems for Esentepe.
