Akıncı to meet with political parties today
President Mustafa Akıncı is going to meet with leaders of political parties and their representatives today. The meeting will be held at the Presidential Palace and President Akıncı will inform CTP-BG, UBP, DPUG, TDP authorities regarding the new negotiation process.
Akıncı: “Communities’ being a part of process is important”
President Mustafa Akıncı received the authorities of the Turkish Cypriot Businessmen Association under the Presidency of Metin Şadi the previous day. In his speech, stating that as long as there is a political will, a solution will be closer, Akıncı said that steps are being taken to bring the two communities closer. Adding that they hope the steps taken will shorten the way which goes to a comprehensive solution, Akıncı said that their aim was to reach a comprehensive solution in a short time. Furthermore, expressing that solution process should be walked together, Akıncı stressed that beside the two leaders, communities and non-governmental organizations also have a serious role in this process. Underlining that communities will live the result of negotiations after approving the result, Akıncı indicated that within this context, communities’ being a part of the process is very important. In his speech, the President of the Turkish Cypriot Businessmen Association Metin Şadi stated that as soon as Akıncı was elected as the President, an important synergy in North Cyprus, South Cyprus and the International Community has been created on the way to a solution. Expressing that Akıncı’s appointing Özdil Nami as a negotiator is a very important message towards a solution, Şadi said “We want the negotiations to end with a comprehensive solution in a short time and we also believe that they should be supported with confidence building measures”. Akıncı thanked the authorities of the Turkish Cypriot Businessmen Association saying that their support is a very important motivation.
Akıncı received Kyrgyz parliamentarian Dasatbek Djumabekov
President Mustafa Akıncı received the group leader of Fatherland Party of Kyrgyzstan Dasatbek Djumabekov and TRNC Representative of Kyrgyzstan Tayseer Al-Shanaleh.
Parliamentarian of the Fatherland Party of Kyrgyzstan Dasatbek Djumabekov wished success to Akıncı in his new duty and also wished that it will be for the benefit of the TRNC people. During the meeting he held with President Mustafa Akıncı, Djumabekov said that they wanted to establish a friendship group between the “parliaments of the two countries” but this was prevented by pressures from the parliamentarians. He also said that he hopes that the Turkish world will be united soon and that the “TRNC” will take its place in this union.
TRNC Representative of Kyrgyzstan Tayseer Al-Shanaleh stated that they organized a Turkish Cypriot week for the first time in Kyrgyzstan.
Al-Shanaleh also stated that there were several pressures on Kyrgyz parliamentarians to not come to the TRNC however in spite of this Djumabekov showed an example of courage.
For his part, Akıncı expressed his pleasure to see the Djumabekov in the island and he stated that it is important to hold contacts and added that if a Friendship Group is established, then the efforts for solving the Cyprus problem would be strengthened.
He pointed out the importance of the two people’s solidarity even though Kyrgyzstan does not recognize the TRNC, and also he mentioned that if the TRNC Friendship Group is established, these relations will move to a more advanced level. Expressing that this will strengthen the efforts for a settlement, Akıncı said: “The door of our heart is always open to you.”
Prime Minister Özkan Yorgancıoğlu also received group leader of Fatherland Party of Kyrgyzstan Dasatbek Djumabekov and TRNC Representative of Kyrgyzstan Tayseer Al-Shanaleh.
Kalın: “We support the positive climate of the negotiations so far”
Turkish Presidency Deputy Secretary General and Spokesman Ambassador İbrahim Kalın stated that not only the Turkish side, but also Greek side must be in a sincere effort at the negotiations and they support the positive climate of the negotiations so far, and also they will continue to support the negotiation process and stand by the Turkish Cypriot people from now on.
Kalın reminded at the press conference that elected President Mustafa Akıncı and Greek Leader Nikos Anastasiades had two meetings and one of them is official, for the resumption of the negotiations. Kalın stated that Turkey which is a guarantor and has a very special relationship with the TRNC, stand by the Turkish Cypriot people and said: “We continue to take the necessary steps so that 2015 will be the year of resolution because negotiations cannot continue forever in Cyprus.” he said.
Turkey- EU Partnership council is satisfied with the restart of negotiations
Turkey- EU Partnership council expressed appreciation about the restart of negotiations in Cyprus and promised a full, decisive and concrete support to the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Cyprus, Espen Barth Eide’s efforts.
Partnership council called for concrete steps for the resumption of negotiations.
The resumption of UN led negotiations in Cyprus is welcomed and UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Cyprus, Espen Barth Eide’s efforts are promised to be supported.
South Cyprus is an enemy country for LGBTT
It’s reported that despite LGBTT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transsexual and transgender) individuals are preparing for an honour parade in June, South Cyprus is considered as an “enemy country” by LGBTT among the EU member countries.
The Greek Simerini newspaper wrote that organizers of the march are demanding Greek Cypriot parliament to approve the law on regulations on marriage of same-sex partners.
Due to the Stonewall uprising anniversary every year at the end of June across the globe, LGBTT individuals and the people who support LGBTT perform a series of events and ceremonial parades.
Illegal workers from Bangladesh to South Cyprus
Fileleftheros newspaper wrote that the gang from Bangladesh who finds jobs in South Cyprus and provides fake documents to Bangladesh citizens in exchange of 7-8 thousand Euros, is abusing them.
According to the news, a suspicious Bangladeshi was arrested at Larnaca Airport yesterday with a fake passport.
It’s claimed that two Bangladeshis who went to South Cyprus as the victims of the illegal worker gang, are being treated inhumanly by two Cypriots they are working for. It’s been reported that the workers are working from 07.00 till 22.30, are being affronted and earn 300 Euros for 2 months work.
According to the news 3 members of the gang are arrested and 1 person is wanted.
