Nursel Oztekin and the Art of Recycling
By Engin Dervişağa…..
The Vov Pop team rercently went along to TRNC Culture Department, Lefkosa to meet Nursel Oztekin who was holding her exhibition “The Art of Recycling” which was fascinating and amazing to see what could be created from recycled waste material.
Nursel Oztekin was born in Nicosia in April 1964. She lived in Nicosia until the age of seven and then moved and lived in Melbourne, Australia whereafter attended primary and high school and she then attended the Melbourne College of Hair & Beauty.
After graduating she came back to live in Cyprus when she was 19 years of age. Whe she came back she started and has been running her own hair & beauty salon along with working on many community services. İn 2003 she published her first children’s novel book, donating all the income to 12 children with leukaemia.
In March, 2014 she cut her hair to raise awareness for a campaign to make real hair wigs for cancer patients. In September 2014 she published her second poetry book donated to Help Those with Cancer Association (Tulips).
Having a deep interest in the problem of waste material she decided to show through her exhibition using her artistic talents how this material could be recycled as you can see on our Vox Pop show on Sunday 19th April at 13.30am and it will be repeated on Wednesday 22nd April at 11.00am so do tune in to join me on my show, Vox Pop on BRT2 Television.
