Nikos Anastasiades to suspend the negotiations and said “Anastasiades who suspended the negotiations has to re-launch them”. Eroğlu said: “If the Greek Cypriot side wants an agreement that both Turkish Cypriots and Greek Cypriots will live in peace, they should take a decision to return to the negotiating table.”
Expressing that the bi-zonal, bi-communal, federal solution based on political equality is accepted by the whole world, Eroğlu said “at the present stage the most important issue is filling under these topics.”
Foreign Minister Nami meets with Eide
Foreign Minister Özdil Nami met with Espen Barth Eide, the UN Secretary-General’s Special Advisor for Cyprus.
During the meeting, the developments which took
place in the aftermath of the suspension of the negotiations with the announcement of Greek Cypriot Leader Anastasiades that he would not attend the scheduled meetings, were discussed.
Foreign Minister Nami expressed to Eide that the international community should not remain a spectator while the Greek Cypriot side leaves the negotiating table by creating excuses rather than engaging in result-orientated negotiations, that it is crucial for both sides to focus on the comprehensive settlement negotiations, and that the UN has a significant role to play in this regard.
