President Eroğlu: “Greek Cypriot side should be willing for a solution”
President Derviş Eroğlu said that if the Greek Cypriot side reflects their will for a solution and the changes which took place in the last 40 years on the negotiation table sincerely, as the Turkish Cypriot side, an agreement can be reached in Cyprus.
During one of his receptions, President Eroğlu said that one of the most important moves which should be done in the TRNC is economic move and this is possible with cooperation between economic institutions and governments.
Adding that whenever confidence building measures are mentioned, the Greek Cypriot side only takes ‘Varosha’ into consideration, Eroğlu reminded that during his meeting with Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Anastasiades the day before, he proposed to de-mine the island.
Indicating that de-mining will be a confidence building measure for both sides in Cyprus, Eroğlu said that a detailed list was prepared on that issue and stressed that confidence building measures should be mutual.
Pointing out that negotiations have been executed with a hope to reach a solution in the island, Eroğlu said that he is ready for all kinds of dialogue.
President Derviş Eroğlu received EU Commissioner Responsible for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy – Stefan Fule yesterday.
It was stated that Eroğlu will receive the Deputy Assistant Secretary of US Department of State Eric Rubin today. The meeting will start at 11:00 at the Presidential Palace.
Foreign Minister Nami receives delegation of Basın-Sen
The Minister of Foreign Affairs Özdil Nami received the delegation of Basın-Sen yesterday. During the meeting, the President of Basın-Sen – Kemal Darbaz gave information about the international contacts and activities of the union.
During the reception, FM Nami expressed his satisfaction for the visit of Basın-Sen and said that he followed the international activities of the union closely.
Turkish Cypriot negotiator – Kudret Özersay and Greek Cypriot negotiator – Andreas Mavroyannis are going to meet within the framework of negotiations today.
The meeting will start at 10:00 in the buffer zone.
Committee of Missing Persons: “Rate of finding remains decreases to 13% due to timeout”
At the press conference organized by three members of the Committee of Missing Persons, it was stated that the remains that belong to 1,073 persons have been found during the studies of excavation and identification of those persons who were listed as missing during the incidents experienced between the years of 1963-1964 and in 1974, but the rate of finding remains decreased from 50% to 13% due to timeout.
At the press conference, information was given about the activity named “Searching our Missing Persons” which is going to be held on 12 April.
