PRESIDENT EROĞLU TO GO TO ANKARA
According to the statement of the Presidency, President Eroğlu will meet with the Turkish President Abdullah Gül at Çankaya Palace at 12:00 noon tomorrow.
After meeting with the Turkish President, Eroğlu will meet with the Speaker of the Turkish Grand National Assembly, Cemil Çiçek at 15:00pm and then with Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan at 18:10pm.
President Eroglu will return to the TRNC on the same day.
NAMİ: “WE HAVE REACHED A VERY GOOD STAGE REGARDING THE JOINT STATEMENT”
Foreign Affairs Minister Özdil Nami has said that for the first time during the Cyprus negotiation process, it has reached a good stage by working on the joint statement.
Repeating that it has been an important process regarding the Cyprus problem, Nami touched upon the importance of the joint statement prepared by the Turkish Cypriot side. Nami emphasized that if a success was achieved on the joint statement, a development would come out including many details which have never been in any other leaders’ agreement so far and an agreement would be reached on further matters. Nami added that this would be the first.
Stressing that a comprehensive solution would be important for a bright future, Nami said that people should be given exact information.
Paying a visit to Kıbrıs Media Group Chief Editor Süleyman Ergüçlü, Foreign Affairs Minister Nami gave information regarding the works of his Ministry.
Foreign Affairs Minister Özdil Nami stated that the Ministry conducts many projects besides much work about the Cyprus issue.
Stating that non-governmental organizations and media officials were informed regarding the projects, Nami said that they gave importance to transparency as a government.
Nami noted that the Ministry had worked on the needs of Turkish Cypriots living abroad, businessmen’s opening to the world and cultural and sports activities.
Repeating that it has been reached an important stage with regard to the negotiation process, Nami added that both the Ministry and the media have a great duty in terms of informing the people.
PARLIAMENTARY DELEGATION IN STRASBOURG
A delegation from the Republic’s Assembly has embarked on a series of contacts in Strasbourg. The parliamentary delegation which is made up of CTP-BG Deputy Armağan Candan, UBP Deputy Ersan Saner and the DP-UG Deputy Hasan Taçoy will be meeting with political group officials at the European Parliament and follow the workings of the parliament.
The TRNC delegation which will take part in over twenty meetings will be meeting with the Chairman of the EP Foreign Affairs Committee Elmar Brok, the EP’s Reporter on Turkey Ria Oomen – Ruijten, the President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz and the co-president of the Turkey-EU Joint Parliamentary Committee Helene Flautre.
DR FAZIL KÜÇÜK IS BEING REMEMBERED ON THE 30TH ANNIVERSARY OF HIS DEATH
Today (15th January) is the 30th anniversary of the death of the late leader of the Cyprus Turkish Struggle for existence and freedom Dr. Fazıl Küçük. Various ceremonies and events are being held to commemorate the late Cyprus Turkish leader. Meanwhile, flags across the country have been lowered to half mast until midnight.
The late leader of the Cyprus Turkish Struggle for existence and freedom Dr. Fazıl Küçük is being remembered on the 30th anniversary of his death.
The first ceremony for Küçük was held at his mausoleum at Anıttepe at 10.20am this morning.
