PRESIDENT EROĞLU MEETS WITH TURKISH PRESIDENT GÜL
President Derviş Eroğlu within the framework of his contacts in New York met with Turkish President Abdullah Gül at Turkish House yesterday (25 September). Foreign Minister Özdil Nami and Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu also attended the meeting.
Speaking to Turkish Cypriot daily Kıbrıs following the meeting, President Eroğlu’s Special Representative and Spokesman Osman Ertuğ stated that during the meeting views were exchanged with regard to the negotiations expected to be resumed next month. Ertuğ said there was a full consensus between Turkey and the TRNC on this issue.
Pointing out that the issue of mutual visits of both leaders’ special representatives to Ankara and Athens was also discussed Osman Ertuğ said during the meeting it was confirmed that the development on the issue was a clear indication of the total equality between the two sides in Cyprus.
Explaining that President Eroğlu and Turkish President Abdullah Gül also took up the Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Anastasiadis’ letter sent to the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, Osman Ertuğ said: “Political circles here have considered this letter as negative. It includes pre-conditions and elements which are against the UN parameters”.
PRESIDENT EROĞLU MEETS QATAR EMIR AND AZERBAIJANI FOREIGN MINISTER
President Derviş Eroğlu met with Qatar Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani at the Representative Office of Qatar and Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Maharramoglu Mammadyarov at the Turkish Centre yesterday (25 September) within the framework of his contacts in New York.
Following the meetings, President Eroğlu attended a reception hosted by the Permanent Mission of Turkey to the UN in the honour of Turkish President Gül at the Turkish Centre.
FOREIGN MINISTER NAMİ MEETS WITH YEMENI FOREIGN MINISTER AL QİRBİ
Minister of Foreign Affairs Özdil Nami, who is currently in New York with the aim of carrying out contacts within the framework of the 68th Session of the UN General Assembly, met with Yemeni Foreign Minister Dr. Abu Bakr Abdullah Al Qirbi yesterday (25 September).
Foreign Minister Nami and Yemeni Foreign Minister Qirbi exchanged views during the meeting which took place at the Permanent Mission of Yemen to the United Nations.
Nami will continue to hold high-level contacts during his stay in New York.
MISSING TURKISH CYPRIOTS WHOSE IDENTIFICATION HAS BEEN COMPLETED TO BE BURIED
It has been stated that martyrs Turgut Fahri, Irfan Mehmet and Ismail Mustafa who had been martyred by the Greek Cypriots in 1963 and whose identifications have been completed, will be buried with ceremonies.
Mortal remains of the abovementioned martyrs which have been detected by the Autonomous Missing Persons Committee will be buried with ceremonies at different graveyards. Fahri will be buried at Beykoy Graveyard and Mehmet will be buried at Lefkosa Graveyard today. Mustafa will be buried on 30th September at Lefkosa Martyrdom.
USA FOREIGN MINISTER KERRY COMING TO CYPRUS
It has been stated that the USA Foreign Minister John Kerry will come to the island in the following weeks.
According to Greek Cypriot daily ‘Kathimerini’, Kerry’s visit to Cyprus has been decided as a result of contacts of the Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Anastasiadis who is currently in the USA.
It is expected that Kerry will focus on the Cyprus problem during his visit.
‘Kathimerini’ published that Kerry’s visit to Cyprus has also been confirmed by the USA Ministry of Foreign Affairs, but detailed information regarding the date of the visit has not been given yet.
