Birdmen of Alsancak come down to earth

We are pleased to be able to share the following information received from Kyrenia Animal Rescue (KAR) together with their great pictures for your enjoyment.

“Now that all the cash has been collected and counted it is time to announce the result of the sponsored paraglide made on Thursday 22 August by the three ‘Birdmen of Alsancak’ in aid of Kyrenia Animal Rescue [KAR]. The grand total of 4,131.80 TL was made up of 2,006 TL plus £660 and 10 euro.

The three men, with a total age of 222 years, enjoyed the experience immensely and were full of praise for the Highline Tandem Paragliding team of pilots who were able to cope with the trio of septuagenarians including Alan Peek’s ‘dodgy’ knee following his recent operation. The other two were Don Attwood, 75 and David Ray, 70. Alan and Don have been involved with local drama and choirs while David has been offering fishing trips out of Girne harbour for many years.

The executive committee of the TRNC registered animal charity wish to thank Highline Air Tours [0542 855 56 72] for their repeated support and for organising this fundraiser getting the three ‘oldies’ safely to the ground without incident and to all those that sponsored them locally and in the UK to raise such a large amount.”
