A Piece of Paradise touched by Heaven

By Margaret Sheard

I seem to remember a slogan for North Cyprus way back around the beginning of the year 2000 which was something like “A Piece of Paradise touched by Heaven”. I’m not sure if this was the exact slogan but it is quite close and having lived here for 10 years I still think it is very apt. Despite the extensive building of villas and shops which has occurred over the years, there are still many places which come under the term “paradise”, you just need to know where they are.

Generally, this is still a lovely place to live and also to come to for holidays, there is so much to see and do and North Cyprus has a wealth of history and culture. There are so many unspoiled places where you can feel almost in another world, the peace and tranquillity in some of these places is indescribable . On the other hand if you want entertainment and fun evenings out, there are so many places to choose from, there is never a lack of events of music, culture, fundraising, festivals to name a few.

There are many different nationalities now living in North Cyprus. Even though we probably have a moan about the new buildings being erected, it has in fact given us a very good choice of supermarkets and shops and we are increasingly finding more of the goods we could not previously buy here, so sometimes progress is good.

I came across a promotional video on Youtube recently seemingly produced by the North Cyprus Tourism Office and felt that I would like to share this with people who perhaps already know the island and also for those who have never enjoyed the wonderful things North Cyprus has to offer such as: sun, sea, beaches, culture, history and great hospitality. That is why I live here.
