TRNC PRESIDENT EROĞLU RECEIVED DOWNER

TRNC President Dervis Eroğlu received the UN Secretary-General’s Special Advisor on Cyprus, Alexander Downer on Monday 29th July.

Downer was welcomed by the Presidential Special Representative and Spokesman, Osman Ertuğ.

The meeting which started at 16:00pm at the Presidency was attended by the negotiation team namely; Gunes Onar, Serden Hoca, Ali Tuncay, Oguzhan Hasipoglu, and Sonat Altug besides Osman Ertuğ.

No statement was made to the press regarding the meeting, and the press was only allowed to take pictures.

ERK:‘WE WOULD LIKE TO EXPRESS OUR OWN CASE WITH OUR OWN POINT OF VIEW’

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Kutlay Erk, has said that they would like to reach every institution possible through diplomacy and make the Turkish Cypriot people become more known, visible and understandable.

Kutlay Erk has received a delegation from the Turkish Cypriot Businessmen’s Council. In his speech at the reception Erk emphasized the importance they give to diversity and extensity of diplomacy and mentioned his will to make a meeting with the Businessmen’s Council.

During the current term and next terms, Erk said that they would like to reach every institution in the whole world by making city diplomacy through local authorities, civil society diplomacy with non-governmental organizations and citizen diplomacy with citizens besides the political diplomacy of the Foreign Affairs Ministry.

Having said that they would like to express their own case with their own point of view and become a more known, visible and understandable community, Erk mentioned the effective works of the Turkish Cypriot Businessmen’s Council orientated towards the foreign countries.

Erk has said that they are going to analyze and discuss how to co-operate in civil society diplomacy, their capacity, where to reach and how the Ministry of Foreign Affairs can support their actions.
