GAU Flying Angels Public Meeting
By Margaret Sheard
We have received news from Girne American University of an open meeting to inform the public of the social responsibility project of the Flying Angels which has been formed to give support to the elderly and also care for pre-school aged children.
The meeting is to be held from 10am to 12noon on Saturday 6th April at the GAU Cyprus-Girne Campus Millenium Complex Senate Congress Hall. At this time the whole concept of the Flying Angels will be explained in respect of its social responsibility with regard to support for the elderly and also, in addition, to give child care and education for pre-school aged children.
The Flying Angels project consists of the GAU Faculty of Humanities-Psychology Department, the Faculty of Education Pre-School Teaching and the Higher School of Nursing staff and students with the aim of providing the service to all parts of the community and contributing towards support for the elderly and child care and education.
The project is designed to create the unification of the University and the Community. Within the scope of the project there will be care for the elderly encompassing domestic, medical and psychological support together with book-reading and other social activities with regard to cultural and artistic events in conjunction with the Higher School of Nursing, Psychology and Pre-School Teaching staff and students.
Support is also to be provided to give care, pre-school education, psychological support, cognitive, emotional and psychomotor development for pre-school aged children of aidless families.

I have some concerns regarding the service that you are offering.
1 Who will be responsiblefor the regulation of this service?
2 Will Criminal Record Checks be under taken on all volunteers?
3 Have all the volunteers undergone training re Child Protection
4 Have all volunteers had traing re working with Vulnerable adult
There are many more safeguarding policies that need to be implemented.
I wish you all well with the project and I am sure that as a responsble Service Provider you have addressed some or maybe all of my comments
Many Thanks
Thank you Adrian Connor for your questions. Clearly we cannot answer them as we are breaking the news of the meeting being held this Saturday 6th April by the GAU Flying Angels. These questions we are sure will be fully answered at this meeting. As you seem to have a local IP address 9Karakum is it??), do please come along to GAU and you will be able to hear the answers for yourself.
Thank you again for you help and support for the GAU Flying Angels.
Many thanks for your response, however I am unable to attend on Saturday as I have a previous appontment. Hopefully a full report on the presentation will be made available?
Hello Adrian, it’s a great pity that you were unable to attend this meeting. Yes a lot more information was made available and you can read an account of the meeting by clicking here here http://cyprusscene.com/2013/04/11/18780/.
We observed Cyprus Today to be in attendance at the meeting, so they may have written an article as well.
