Bingo Night at Paradise Restaurant
On Friday 14th December, there was a bingo night at Paradise Restaurant, Ҫatalkȍy which was to raise funds for the Ozankȍy Sports Club Youth Football team to buy new kit for them. The team coach, Yildiray Yusef Efe (affectionately known as Joe), said they were currently having to use tape to make the numbers to attach to their shirts which is not exactly successful.
We arrived early as we had decided to have a meal first and before long the room was filling up with people ready to play bingo and support the local sports group, and this included the youth football team, a lively group of young men who settled themselves down for the evening’s event.
Joe was the caller for the bingo session and he was assisted by the previous football club Chairman, Metin Uzun and soon everyone had their bingo sheets and we were ready to start. There were to be 3 lines on one sheet, giving 50TL, 100TL and 200TL and then a full house on the other sheet which was for a prize of 500TL. The youth team were extremely lucky, having 2 winners, one being the full house of 500TL, nice winnings for these 2 lucky young men.
During the interval raffle tickets were sold for some nice prizes and these were drawn at the end of the evening.
This was a very nice evening’s entertainment and we were pleased to see Engin Derviṣaĝo who recently filmed us at home for BRT for a programme about our website www.cyprusscene.com which is to be televised early in the New Year. We also had a chance to speak with his father and mother, Ahmet and Ayse Derviṣaĝo and brother Mustafa who run the restaurant and holiday complex. I am hoping Ahmet will be able to give me some more information about Newman’s Farm, the subject of a previous article, as it seems he remembers it from his childhood.
Chris had also been to a previous fund raising event at Paradise Restaurant in aid of the Ozankȍy Sports Club last year and met some of the team and their coach Joe Efe and Metin Uzun. It is so important to give encouragement to these young people who love sport, and especially football and so nice to see people attending these events to give support.
