Islands Bridge Club Remembers Bill Partridge
Islands Bridge Club Remembers Bill Partridge
It is with sadness that the Islands Bridge Club record the passing of Bill Partridge this month. His son Mike writes that Bill first came to the TRNC in the early 2000’s with his late wife, Ruth. Ruth had been stationed there with her first husband in the 1970s, and they thought they would pay it a visit. He immediately fell in love with the people and the climate and so made it his base as a swallow in Girne for the next 15+ years.
Bill thoroughly enjoyed his time in Cyprus, as it combined his favourite pastimes: chess, bridge, sunshine and good company – and he certainly found all of that there. Even in his final days he hoped to return to the TRNC, but unfortunately his health did not allow it.
He spent his final few years staying with his son and family in southern England, where he would often be found outside in a lounger at the slightest hint of sunshine. A true sun worshipper until the end.
Although he was getting on in years, he remained fairly mobile and in good spirits until a few months ago. Since then, a combination of illnesses sadly got the better of him.
His dry wit and passion for life will be sorely missed. Both Ian Wilson who shared his passion for chess and myself played with him at the various Girne bridge clubs (Sele, Watermill and Sammy’s) during this period.
