Approval of Turkey–TRNC Fibre Optic Cable
The cooperation protocol between Turkey and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), which aims to develop fibre optic infrastructure and deliver services offered over fibre optic cables to households and businesses, has been published in the Official Gazette.
According to the statement made by Türk Telekom, the decision, approved by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and published in the 5th repeated issue of the Official Gazette, aims to strengthen the digital infrastructure and expand communication services throughout the TRNC.
Türk Telekom CEO Ebubekir Şahin, whose views were included in the statement, stated that with the protocol that entered into force with the approval of President Erdoğan, they have taken their goal of bringing the infrastructure of the digital age together with the entire region to a new stage and made the following assessments:
“We are very proud that Türk Telekom, as the technology carrier of the region, will carry out the transformation to bring fibre internet to businesses and households in the TRNC, where we deliver our strong fibre network from Turkey with submarine cables.
In addition to infrastructure investments, we will build the digital future of the island with a fibre mobilization that will support the digitalization of the TRNC in many areas, from education to economy, from health to public services.
This transformation, which started in Northern Cyprus, is not just an infrastructure investment, but a long-term vision for the future that prioritizes sustainable development, digital equality, and common prosperity.”
