Üstel’s Struggle and Martyrs Week’s message
Prime Minister Ünal Üstel issued a message on the occasion of the Struggle and Martyrs’ Week, which runs from 21 to 25 December.
In his message, Üstel emphasised that he commemorates the beloved martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the existence and freedom struggle of the Turkish Cypriot people with mercy, gratitude, and respect.

Üstel pointed out that the attacks, which began on 21 December 1963 and became known in history as ‘Bloody Christmas’, represented one of the most painful attempts to exterminate the Turkish Cypriot people. Emphasizing that the people defended their existence, honour, and future with great fortitude and determination during this dark period, Üstel noted that this just struggle marked a historic turning point on the path toward freedom and sovereignty.
