The very best of Demetra George Mustafaoğlu
Demetra George Mustafaoğlu’s Great Bellapais Night at the Movies
Our dear friend Demetra George Mustafaoğlu, the renowned Classical Singer who lives in the USA, came recently to the TRNC with her husband, Mehmet, to catch up with family and friends, and as she likes to do, she made a wonderful performance at the Bellapais Abbey in aid of the Kyrenia Liman Rotary Club.
As a thank you to all of her fans who have supported her fundraising concerts over the years, she asked us to share this wonderful review and photos with our worldwide readers.

The Bellapais concert hall was in half light, a palpable wave of anticipation hung in the air from the large audience. Nobody was on stage when suddenly a singing voice filled the room; it was eerie, and we looked around, then we saw HER… in the costume of the Phantom of the Opera, high up under the roof, in the pulpit, singing down on us. Demetra George Mustafaoglu, the great entertainer, glorious voice, magnificently opened the evening, as we are used to seeing her.
Then she descended from above to our level, and from that moment on, she held her audience in her grip until the end with scenes of a …I would call it Musical… Demetra had created for us with the title ‘A Night at the Movies’. The stage was transformed into a backstage area with a dressing room. There she went and dressed up for the next scene, how fresh the idea.
Demetra, affectionately known as Demet or Debbie by her friends, had recently returned to Cyprus for a short visit to perform and help children in need. She received support from many to organize the event during her brief stay. # The guests arrived early at Bellapais Abbey, where her friends had organized a reception to meet and exchange news before the concert.
A Colourful and Splendid Performance
There she was now, dressed in a beautiful costume with the insignia that the role
she was playing required, and she told us stories in between, moved through the rows, sat on the steps, and took possession of the entire hall and her audience, making us sing the old well-known melodies. The Amor Latino Duo, as accompaniment, supported her performance with a special touch to the songs. A musical journey into the young years of many of us.
At the end, after the ceremonial bouquet of flowers and thank you speeches by members of the Kyrenia Liman Rotary Club, Demetra returned for a final song, ‘Time to Say Goodbye’… and some of us in my row wondered with me: Will it be a goodbye? At least, for now, yes, she will leave with her husband to go back to Los Angeles, where her close family is. Goodbye, and hopefully, see you soon, dear friend. We shall never forget the many special shows and concerts you gave in the past. Take good care and fly carefully Demetra.
From our previous collaboration with Demetra George Mustafaoğlu, we have included a video recording some years ago of the concert “Night at the Movies” togetther with her latest solo concert at Bellapais Abbey which we hope you will enjoy.
