Tatar: “Attitude toward the legitimate rights of the Turkish Cypriot people has no basis in law”
President Ersin Tatar made a press statement and responded to questions from journalists following his latest meeting with the United Nations (UN) Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy on Cyprus, Maria Angela Holguín.
Speaking after the meeting, President Ersin Tatar stated that the recent pressure and intimidation policy pursued by the Greek Cypriot leadership, targeting the legitimate rights of the Turkish Cypriot people through property-related matters, has no basis in law.
“As long as the Greek Cypriot leader continues to attack us, he will meet with an appropriate response,” he said: “I will never yield to threats and blackmail”.
Tatar went on to emphasize that holding a trilateral meeting would be meaningless while serious issues concerning property remain unresolved.
Tatar further stated that Holguín is scheduled to meet with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan on Monday before travelling to Athens and returning to the island ahead of the July summit. He confirmed that they would remain in contact throughout this period.
Tatar concluded by affirming his unwavering priority: “The peace, security, and rights of our people come before everything else”.
