Tatar:  “We will participate in the informal meeting in Geneva”

President Ersin Tatar stated that they will participate in the informal meeting to be held in Geneva on 17-18 March.

President Tatar received UN Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs Rosemary DiCarlo who is on the island to discuss Cyprus issue and the preparations for the informal meeting yesterday (10 February 2025).

Tatar stated that during the one and a half hour meeting with DiCarlo, the meeting envisaged to be held in Geneva in March was discussed. He also expressed that that the informal meeting, which is expected to be attended by all parties, would be beneficial.

  1. Tatar bey, anything short of a 2 state solution is a slippery slope to the demise of the Turkish Cypriots! Never ever forget the old saying, “Beware of Greeks bearing gifts “.

    They know the existence of the Immovable property commission so there should no compromise on this. Furthermore, the international community must consider compensating the TC community for the restricted life & loss of livelihood for over 60 years!

    The best thing the GCs should be given is recognition by Türkiye and their ability to trade & move through Turkish waters; improve trade and cooperation with TRNC; reduce unnecessary military expenditure (on both sides) and route those funds into more beneficial investments to both communities. This should be the starting point and over time, depending on rate of increase in trust of each community, other initiatives can be explored. In the meantime, we must get to square 1!
