Girne Arkın Group Fest24 Started With Grand Parade

The ‘Girne Arkın Group Fest24,’ organized by the Girne Municipality with Merit International as the main sponsor, officially started with a parade walk on Tuesday, September 3rd, at 7:00 PM.

The parade featured a large number of citizens, politicians, as well as civil society organizations, schools, sports clubs, actors from the Istanbul State Theatres, cultural and arts associations, and all the sponsors. The parade included a band, dance groups, and various animation teams.

The parade, which set off from Girne Ramadan Cemil Square at 7:00 PM with approximately a thousand participants, concluded its walk at the Ancient Harbour and attended the first event of the evening, the Girne Municipality Folk Dance Group performance. Following the performance, a fireworks display took place, and at 8:30 PM, the ‘The Cotton Club’ dance show was staged. At 9:30 PM, the ‘Sonare Polyphonic Choir’ performed for the audience.

3 Different Historical Atmospheres

This year, with the restoration of the Ancient Harbour and the renovation of the Kordonboyu, three new stages were added to the festival. The addition of the ‘Harbour Kordonboyu Stage,’ ‘Harbour Central Stage,’ and ‘Harbour Castle Stage’ allowed the public to experience art in three different historical atmospheres. In addition to these three stages, the festival also features two more main stages: the ‘Ramadan Cemil Square Stage’ and the ‘Amphitheatre.’ Tonight, ‘The Shrew’ will be performed at the Girne Amphitheatre. According to a statement from the Girne Municipality, tickets for the performance at Girne Amphitheater will be sold at the door, and online sales will continue.

The Shrew

On Wednesday, September 4th, at 9:00 PM, the play ‘The Shrew,’ staged by the Istanbul State Theatres, will be performed at the Girne Amphitheatre with English and Russian subtitles. The play revolves around the marriage adventures of Signor Battista’s two daughters, one extraordinarily shrewish and stubborn, and the other gentle and compliant. Battista has declared that he will not allow his younger daughter Bianca to marry until his ill-tempered eldest daughter Katerina is married off. Bianca’s suitors seek to unlock this predicament by turning to Petruchio. Petruchio undertakes the task both to marry and to gain the substantial dowry, as well as to tame and subdue Katerina. Meanwhile, Bianca’s suitors attempt various methods to approach the young girl and win her heart. The struggle of Katerina to resist a male-dominated society and the schemes to obtain Bianca will create a sort of vortex.

Program Of  5th September

The first event on September 5th was the ‘Give or Take’ dance performance at 7:30 PM on the Harbour Central Stage. Following this, at 8:30 PM, Gizem Akbil and her Orchestra performed on the same stage. The festival  continued with a concert by Melek Mosso on September 6th and will close the week with the ‘Vintage Bazaar’ at Girne Ramadan Cemil Square on September 7th.
