The TRNC XXXII State Photography Competition Exhibition

The TRNC XXXII State Photography Competition Exhibition, organized by the Directorate of Culture under the Office of the Prime Minister and the Ministry of Tourism, Culture, Youth, and Environment, will open on August 19, Monday. The exhibition, inaugurated by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism, Culture, Youth, and Environment Fikri Ataoğlu, will be held at the Atatürk Culture Center at 18:30.

Director of the Directorate of Culture, Şirin Zaimağaoğlu, has invited the entire photography community and art lovers to attend the State Photography Competition Exhibition and Award Ceremony, the longest-running art event in the TRNC, which is being held for the 32nd time this year, and to celebrate World Photography Day together at the Atatürk Culture Center.  Awards and certificates of appreciation will be presented at the exhibition opening.

The “XXXII State Photography Competition,” whose results were announced on June 14, 2024, had its jury members from Marmara University Faculty of Fine Arts Photography Department Professor Dr. Osman Ürper, Trakya University Faculty of Fine Arts Professor Dr. Ali Muhammet Bayraktaroğlu, and from the TRNC, Director and Photography Artist Mert Yusuf Özlük of Eastern Mediterranean University’s Department of Art, Humanities, and Social Sciences. The evaluation meeting, attended by the Director of the Directorate of Culture, Şirin Zaferyıldızı Zaimağaoğlu, observer member Ceyhan Özyıldız, the Director of the Culture Center and Photography Artist, and Abdullah Onar’s daughter, Artist Anber Onar, as a Consultant Member in the Architectural category, reviewed a total of 1,091 photographs from 55 participants. Following the evaluation meeting, 129 photographs from 39 participants will be exhibited in the State Photography Competition Exhibition.

Awards

Awards to be presented at the exhibition opening will include Achievement Awards for Kenan Hürdeniz, Atila Karaderi, Ulaş Sönmez, Mehmet Hoca, and Jason Caner Özege, while Honorable Mentions will go to Altuğ Galip, Kutlay Muazzez Halkseven, Besime Tanul, Ulaş Sönmez, and Kenan Hürdeniz. Ulaş Sönmez will receive the Directorate of Culture Special Award, and Kenan Hürdeniz will receive the Jury Special Award.

The award for the Most Exhibited Photographer, with 10 photographs each, will go to Ulaş Sönmez and Mehmet Gökyiğit.

Exhibited Works

The XXXII State Photography Competition Exhibition, which will be open until Friday, August 23, will feature awarded photographs as well as 23 photographs by 16 photographers in the Free (Black & White) category, 16 photographs by 13 photographers in the Free (Colour) category, 32 photographs by 17 photographers in the Nature (Colour-Black & White) category, 21 photographs by 15 photographers in the My City: Güzelyurt (Colour-Black & White) category, 15 photographs by 10 photographers in the Conceptual (Free) category, and 22 photographs by 16 photographers in the Architectural (Black & White) category, Abdullah Onar’s Works.
