President Ersin Tatar meets with expat residents in the village of Karaman

“Expats are a very important part of our society who make social and economic contributions to our country”

President Ersin Tatar met with members of the expat community in Karaman on the third day of Bayram, following the invitation by the residents of the village.

Paying tribute to the expat community in an address at the gathering, President Tatar stated that he was “very happy to be with members of the expat community and residents of the village of Karaman”.

Stating that the “expat community make social and economic contributions to our country,” President Tatar recalled his years when he lived in the UK and worked at Price Waterhouse Accountancy firm in London and recounted his memories from that period.

President Tatar stated that he shares the same sensitivities on the need to “preserve the beautiful characteristics of the historic village of Karaman which is home to more than 140 families”.

President Tatar paid tribute to Peggy McAlpine, the late mother of Elizabeth Forsyth, who on her 100th birthday in 2007, had paraglided from the top of the 760-metre peak of the Beşparmak Mountain – making international headlines for breaking the world record as the oldest person ever to do so, and putting the TRNC on the map.

President Tatar expressed his gratitude to the expat community for their support to the TRNC and the Turkish Cypriot cause as they continue to seek justice and an end to the inhumane isolation.

“I have always given great importance to the expat community and am at your disposal whenever the need arises,” President Tatar said.

Speaking on behalf of the expats at the gathering, Elizabeth Forsyth paid tribute to President Tatar, and said: “President Tatar graduated from the University of Cambridge, after completing his studies at Jesus College in Economics. We are lucky to have someone with his expertise running this country.”
