Northern Cyprus shares its Daily News of Life and Times around the world
Karaoğlanoğlu Primary School students planted Mulberry saplings as part of the ‘Green Schools and Nature’s Young Advocates Project’.
Under the leadership of the Cyprus Turkish Women Entrepreneurs Association (GİKAD), the ‘Green Schools and Nature’s Young Advocates Project’ was continued as Karaoğlanoğlu Primary School students planted trees. Girne Mayor Murat Şenkul, Önder Shopping Mall Director and Member of Parliament Gülşah Sanver Manavoğlu, Karaoğlanoğlu Primary School Principal Ayşem Tomgüsehan, Önder Shopping Mall Nicosia Manager Mustafa Alibaba, along with teachers and students, attended the event held at Gelin Kuşu Park. The students planted mulberry trees in various parts of the park.
The ‘Green Schools and Nature’s Young Advocates Project’, is promoted by the Ministry of National Education, International Final University, Cyprus Turkish Women Entrepreneurs Association (GİKAD), Environmental Research Center (Final Environment), General Directorate of Secondary Education, Vocational Technical Education Directorate, and Primary Education Directorate. The main theme of the project consists of topics such as the preservation of natural resources and environmental health, climate crisis, erosion control, soil cover protection, afforestation, biodiversity, and the importance of recycling. Participating schools can be awarded the ‘Green Flag’ award.
The organization, where schools winning the ‘Green Flag’ award breathe life into their projects with the aims of reducing their global carbon footprint and joining in social projects, is realized through cooperation between a sponsor company and a school. The aim of the Project is to encourage both participants and students to work together underlining their social responsibility.
