“Becoming Cem” Press Conference in Girne
The musical “Becoming Cem,” which will be staged exclusively for the Champion Angels Association, will perform in 4 cities from March 1st to March 4th. A press conference was held at Girne Municipality regarding the musical, which combines music and dance and pays tribute to Cem Karaca.
Attending the press conference were Cem Özer and Girne Mayor Murat Şenkul, as well as contributors to the staging of the musical, including Sefer Tüz, the General Manager of Telsim; Sinan Gezen, the Deputy General Manager of Marketing and Sales at Telsim; Esra Dağlarbaşı Bozdoğan, the Public Relations Manager of Uptown Büyük Anadolu Hotel; and Serdar Tuksal, the Social Affairs Branch Manager of Girne Municipality.
After Tuksal provided information about the play and the organization, Özer spoke about the play and its production process, addressing questions from the press.
Özer: “I Could’nt Sleep For Days”
Starting his speech by emphasizing the magnitude of the earthquake disaster on February 6th, Cem Özer pointed out that while such events might be considered fate for those living in Turkey, the same cannot be said for the Champion Angels. Özer drew attention to the responsibility of people living in Turkey, especially regarding the buildings they inhabit, highlighting the consequences of not taking action in this regard. He also highlighted the innocence of the Champion Angels who traveled to Turkey for a sports competition. Özer concluded his statement by noting the intense scrutiny of the İSİAS trial, stating, “Nobody is giving up on the case.”
“What Can we Do About This?”
Özer, mentioning that he is also a father of a daughter, expressed feeling sleepless for days after hearing about the Champion Angels, feeling a sense of responsibility. He explained that he sought answers to the question, “What can we do about this?” and that the idea of staging the play emerged from this. Özer stated that he contacted his longtime friend Ertan Birinci after the idea came up, marking the first step of the project, followed by contributions from important institutions such as Girne Municipality and Vodafone.
“Apology To Cem Karaca”
Özer lamented that artists in Turkey gain importance only after they pass away, acknowledging the suffering Cem Karaca endured for many years and suggesting that the play serves as an apology in this regard. Özer expressed hope that Cem Karaca, who shares the same place as the Champion Angels, would find some peace after the play.
Tüz: “We Invite Everybody To Buy Tickets”
Following Özer, Sefer Tüz, the General Manager of Telsim, emphasized the importance of the organization, expressing their happiness in participating in such events as a company. Thanking everyone who contributed to the organization, Tüz invited everyone to buy tickets for this meaningful event.
Bozdoğan: “We All Feel The Pain”
Lastly, Esra Dağlarbaşı Bozdoğan, the Public Relations Manager of Uptown Büyük Anadolu Hotel, stated that “we all feel the pain” following the incident, emphasizing that the responsibility to keep the name of the Champion Angels alive will never cease. Reminding everyone that ‘becoming Cem’ signifies unity, Bozdoğan thanked everyone involved.
