Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Öncü Keçeli, responded to a question regarding the “Maritime Spatial Planning” approved by the Council of Ministers of the Greek Cypriot Administration on 20 December 2023.
According to the written statement of the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Keçeli pointed out that the areas specified in the “Maritime Spatial Planning”, which is based on a European Union directive and is prepared by all member states, violates the rights of both Türkiye and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).
Keçeli also reminded that Türkiye has registered the outer limits of its continental shelf in the Mediterranean to the United Nations as early as 2004 and most recently in 2020.
