TRNC Ministry of Health, Department of Primary Health Care Services Unit for Preventive Health Services, Sevgul Maydonozcu Kara, declared the necessary information for the country about diseases.
Kara noted that some news media reported an increase in infectious diseases which does not reflect the truth. According to the report of World Health Organization in 2015, Kara pointed out that 257 million people in the world live with chronic HBV, 71 million people with chronic HCV infection and 36.7 million people with HIV infection, and gave information about the last figures in the TRNC.
Between January 1, 2016 and December 31, 2016, 308 people were diagnosed with hepatitis B, 82 people with HCV, 28 people with HIV, 1 person with brucellosis, 3 people with malaria, according to the Land, Need for Compulsory Diseases Statistics. Noting that these figures are similar between January 1, 2017 and December 31, 2017, Kara said that 186 people had hepatitis B, 86 people had HCV and 17 people had HIV.
According to the information provided by Kara, hepatitis B was found in 650 people, HCV in 32 people and HIV in 7 people between January 1st, 2016 and December 31st, 2016. These figures were similar between 1 January 2017 and 31 December 2017 and did not increase. In the period up to August 2018, Hepatitis B was found in 331 people, HCV in 26 people and HIV in 5 people.
In TRNC citizens, hepatitis B in 10 persons, hepatitis C in 2 persons and HIV in 1 person were detected between January 1, 2016 and December 31, 2016.These figures were similar between 1 January 2017 and 31 December 2017 and did not increase. In the first six months of this year, Hepatitis B was seen in 4 people.
Between January 1, 2016 and December 31, 2016, testing was found to have hepatitis B in 14 patients, HCV in 4 patients, HCV in 4 patients, syphilis in 29 patients and genital viral in 4 patients. These figures were similar between 1 January 2017 and 31 December 2017 and did not increase. According to August 2018 data, 1 patient had hepatitis B, 5 patients had HCV, 5 patients had HIV and 11 patients had syphilis.
