TRNC Minister of Economy and Energy Özdil Nami has commented on the tensions prompted by the Greek Cypriot Administration’s unilateral hydrocarbon exploration activities in the Eastern Mediterranean.

Nami stated that “The Turkish Cypriot side is not the reason for the tensions, the reason is the insistent unilateral steps of the Greek Cypriots. We always emphasize that these resources belong to all Cypriots. The management of the island’s natural resources cannot be monopolized by the Greek Cypriot Administration. We will continue to show every effort to protect the environment of peace and tranquillity on the island, and we expect the other side to respect our rights and interests as well”.

In his speech at the Mediterranean Economic Forum in Mersin, Nami said that improving trade, increasing mutual investments and strengthening cultural ties have made significant contributions to the development of countries.

Nami also indicated that the TRNC is continuing to work hard in order to bring a comprehensive settlement to the Cyprus problem, as well as taking important steps to safely develop the economy, despite the barriers imposed by the Greek Cypriots.

Nami also stated that they are involved in various initiatives regarding lifting the isolations on the Turkish Cypriots in the UN, the PACE, and the EU.
