Arpalık Martyrs were commemorated in a ceremony at the Tekke Garden Cemetery yesterday.

Speaking at the ceremony, President of the Martyrs’ Families and War Veterans Association, Gürsel Benan, paid tribute to the sacrifice of Arpalık Martyrs and the important role they played in the Turkish Cypriots’ struggle for existence.

Benan noted that 54 years have passed since the martyrs lost their lives during the attacks by Greek Cypriot militants in 1964, and said: “We bow in respect in front of our martyrs, whose sacrifice provided us with our existence today.”

The ceremony ended with wreaths being laid and the reading of prayers.
