TRNC News 17.11.2017 : Denktaş: “Turkish Cypriots established own state by protecting ownership rights

Addressing the Cyprus issue at a symposium earlier in the week, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Serdar Denktaş said, “The whole world should know, that Turkish Cypriots have established their own state by protecting their ownership rights from Greek Cypriot occupation forces.”

Denktaş, who is also leader of the Democratic Party, addressed the existence of Turkish Cypriots on the island during his speech, “We have been struggling to protect our own rights in Cyprus for so long.” Denktaş also emphasised that these rights were derived from 400 years of Turkish existence on the island and not from the Republic of Cyprus, which was established in 1960 and survived only three years. Observing that negotiations still continue under the perception that Greek Cypriots have seized the rights of the Turkish Cypriots, Denktaş said that the time that was lost during years of negotiations is proof that the Greek Cypriot side does not, nor will ever, accept Turkish Cypriots as equals.

Reminding the audience that 12 years have passed since the Annan Plan 2004 referendum and the five party conference held in Geneva, Denktaş stated that discussions regarding the settlement are ongoing although the Greek Cypriot side is reluctant to accept a solution, despite Turkey’s concessions.

“It should be noted that unless the Greek Cypriot side and other parties accept Turkish Cypriots as an equal political partner on the island, a new negotiation process will end with the loss of Turkey and Turkish Cypriots as partners,” Denktaş said.

Referring to the words from the TRNC’s Founding President Rauf Raif Denktaş, the Deputy Prime Minister said, “The whole world should know that the TRNC, which has defended the ownership rights of the Turkish Cypriots from the Greek occupation forces, is an independent Republic and it will remain so.”

Özgürgün: “The peace and tranquillity brought to the island by Turkish Armed Forces 43 years ago continues today”

On Thursday, Prime Minister Hüseyin Özgürgün received the Turkish War Veterans Association Konya division, led by the Association’s President Mustafa Buğur.

At the reception, Prime Minister Özgürgün stated that the peace and tranquillity brought to the island by Turkish Armed Forces 43 years ago continues today. Özgürgün also emphasized that this stability was brought to both Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots, and is of mutual benefit to both sides.

Özgürgün: “Our mission is to continue striving for Turkish existence in Cyprus”

This week, Prime Minister Hüseyin Özgürgün received a delegation from the War Veterans, Martyrs, Widows and Orphans Association of Turkey in honour of the celebration of the 34th anniversary of the establishment of the TRNC.

Expressing his pleasure at meeting the guest delegation, Prime Minister Özgürgün stressed that organisations for martyrs’ families and war veterans are highly valued in the TRNC.

Özgürgün said, “If we can live on this land, communicate and work with each other, we owe this to our martyrs as well. Our martyrs are a source of great pride for us.”

Ertuğruloğlu receives veterans of the Cyprus Peace Operation to mark 34th Republic Day

TRNC Minister of Foreign Affairs Tahsin Ertugruloglu received veterans of the Cyprus Peace Operation, who made their visit to mark the 34th anniversary of the establishment of the TRNC.

Cyprus Peace Operation veterans from Antalya, Kastamonu, and Konya celebrated the 34th Republic Day anniversary at a reception at the MFA, and stressed that they will always support the Turkish Cypriot People.

A delegation from the War Veterans, Martyrs, and Widows and Orphans Association of Turkey was also present at the reception, which took place at the Uğur Umar Conference hall at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Ertuğruloğlu expressed his gratitude to all the veterans and martyrs who sacrificed so much for the Turkish People’s independence and state.

Ertuğruloğlu receives delegation of UK Turkish Community Football Federation

Foreign Minister Tahsin Ertuğruloğlu has received the delegation of the UK’s Turkish Community Football Federation in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During the meeting, members of the board of directors of the federation informed Minister Ertuğruloğlu about the works of the federation.

Minister Ertuğruloğlu also received the senior Ghanaian parliamentarian Alhaji Ras Mubarak, who visited the TRNC to attend the celebrations for 15 November Republic Day.

Çavuşoğlu: “As a guarantor country, Turkey will continue to work tirelessly towards the resolution of the Cyprus problem through dialogue and diplomacy”

Foreign Minister of Turkey Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu stressed that as a guarantor country, Turkey will continue to work tirelessly towards the resolution of the Cyprus problem through dialogue and diplomacy.

In his speech at the Turkish Grand National Assembly, Çavuşoğlu said it was clearly seen at Crans-Montana that the Greek Cypriot side does not want to reach a solution, whereas the sincere efforts of the Turkish Cypriot side and Turkey to reach a settlement were seen by the UN and EU.

Furthermore, while underlining that the Turkish Cypriot side cooperates closely with Turkey on the issue of Cyprus, Çavuşoğlu noted that Turkey is continuing its efforts to ease the isolations imposed on the TRNC, including opening further TRNC representative offices abroad and to lobby for the TRNC passport to be accepted in more countries.

3 missing martyrs to be buried today

The remains of three missing martyrs from 1963, Kemal Koççino (Goççino), Mehmet Koççino (Goççino) and Hüseyin Mustafa Vreççalı, whose remains were found during excavations will be buried today at Tekke Garden.

The remains of the three martyrs from Küçük Kaymaklı will be buried at the Tekke Garden with a military ceremony after the funeral prayer at Küçük Kaymaklı Mosque.

During the events of 1963, the three martyrs escaped from Küçük Kaymaklı to Hamitköy on 25 December. When they returned to Küçük Kaymakli the next morning to feed their animals they were killed by Greek Cypriots militants and their remains were lost.

The remains of the three missing martyrs were identified as a result of the ongoing efforts of the Committee on Missing Persons.
