The Creditwest TRNC Cricket ladies begin training for the autumn season next Saturday 23rd September, with the North Cyprus League starting in a few weeks and matches planned against teams from South Cyprus.Coach Nigel Holman said, we’d like as many ladies to join us as possible. It is unimportant how good someone is, it’s about joining in. Our players are from their 30’s to 60’s with very few having played before, which doesn’t matter because we are very happy to show people how to do it. Cricket is a great game for fitness, as there’s plenty of running, bending and stretching and don’t worry, we play with a soft ball.

Captain Gina Mapp added, like most of our girls, I’d never played until a couple years ago, now I can’t wait for the season to get underway. Cricket is more than fitness, it’s very sociable as well. I absolutely love it.

Ladies cricket has grown rapidly in the UK over the last few years, with England winning the world cup last July. To help it in North Cyprus, a new mini league of 3 teams of 4 players each (Lapta Lasses, Girne Girls and Çatalköy Chicks) will compete. This will be a very fast action packed format, which is guaranteed to be lots of fun.

The next coaching session is on Saturday 23rd September 11am at the Pia Bella Sports Ground, then continues every week. Please come along, no equipment is needed. Contact Gina 0533 8332069.
