The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has released a statement about the Turkish citizen who was arrested while crossing the TRNC border to South Cyprus.

The MFA stated, “We hope the Greek Cypriot police officer is punished for this inhumane treatment and that the Turkish citizen is returned to the TRNC after the necessary procedures. This gravely inhumane treatment by the Greek Cypriot police officer cannot be accepted.”

It was also noted that, “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs set up the necessary official meetings with the United Nations on the day that the event happened. The developments regarding the individual’s border crossing to South Cyprus, his subsequent arrest and court process are  being closely followed. A decision was taken to deport the Turkish citizen and  the individual filed a complaint for battery and violence. After his complaint, the court ordered an investigation into the event. It was learned that the man will not be deported until completion of the investigation. We hope that the Turkish citizen is returned to the TRNC after the necessary procedures are complete.”
