Minister of Economy and Energy Sunat Atun has stated that works within the framework of energy cooperation agreement with Turkey to lay electricity pipes undersea from Turkey to the TRNC are almost complete. Atun said that the project is due to be concluded in two to two and a half years.

The minister said that, as per the plans laid out in the agreement, joint working groups have gathered a number of times, and that they have almost completed their works. Atun added that Turkish Cypriot side is always ready to provide electricity to South Cyprus.

 Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Akdağ to arrive in the TRNC

Deputy Prime Minister of Turkey and Responsible for Cyprus Affairs, Recep Akdağ will arrive in Cyprus today to hold official contacts.

Within the framework of today’s schedule, Akdağ will meet with President Mustafa Akıncı and government authorities.

Ceremonies planned to mark 30th August Victory Day

30th August Victory Day will be celebrated this week with ceremonies in Turkey and the TRNC. The day commemorates one of the important stages of the War of Independence: the victory gained on 30th August 1922 by Turkish people under the leadership of Atatürk. On Wednesday, various ceremonies will be held in Lefkoşa and other cities.
