Akıncı met with Kanbay

President Mustafa Akıncı met with Turkish Ambassador to Lefkoşa Derya Kanbay yesterday afternoon. Akıncı and Kanbay exchanged views regarding the five-party Cyprus conference and the negotiation process during the meeting.

Kanbay presented President Akıncı with a memorial card containing a fragment of the collapsed marble walls of the Grand National Assembly, following the attempted coup on 15 July 2016.

The card was prepared by the Turkish Prime Minister’s Directorate General of Press and Information Office.

The card stated that “Terror is a crime against humanity” and highlighted the strength of democracy and heroism shown by the Turkish people on 15 July.

Akıncı had a telephone conversation with Biden

President Mustafa Akıncı had a telephone conversation with US Vice President Joe Biden, who has now completed his term of office.

In their telephone conversation, Akıncı thanked Biden for his contribution to the Cyprus negotiations during his term of office and wished him success in the future.

Kanbay presents Ertuğruloğlu with a card in memory of 15 July

Turkish Ambassador to Lefkoşa Derya Kanbay met with Foreign Minister Tahsin Ertuğruloğlu yesterday.

Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mustafa Lakadamyalı, was also present at the meeting.

During the meeting, Kanbay presented a memorial card to Ertuğruloğlu in memory of those who lost their lives during the “Attempted Coup in Turkey on 15 July 2016”.

The card was prepared by the Turkish Prime Minister’s Directorate General of Press and Information Office. It includes marble pieces of the wall of the Turkish Grand National Assembly which was destroyed during the terrorist attack by the Fetullah terrorist organization on 15 July 2016.

It was stressed on the card that “Terror is a crime against humanity”. It was also highlighted the strength of democracy and heroism shown by the Turkish people on 15 July.

Five-party Conference continues in Mont Pèlerin

The five-party conference, where Security and Guarantees are being discussed as part of the Cyprus negotiations, continues today in Mont Pèlerin. The conference is expected to end tomorrow.

The Turkish Cypriot negotiator Özdil Nami is heading a working group at the conference which consists of Presidential Spokesman Barış Burcu, the President’s special advisor on Diplomacy and EU Erhan Erçin, legal advisor Sülen Karabacak, foreign affairs expert İpek Borman Genç and member of the negotiating team Sertaç Güven .

The conference is expected to continue on a political level, while a final decision on Security and Guarantees will be taken at the end of the month or in early February.

According to a report by Anadolu Agency, Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Tuğrul Türkeş travelled to Geneva in order to hold bilateral and multilateral meetings as part of the Cyprus negotiations. Türkeş is expected to hold meetings with the working groups which are continuing their work on Security and Guarantees.
