Tuğrul leaves the pitch with a dislocated shoulder

Struggling Esentepe who were 2 goals down at half time, rallied in the second half and pulled a goal back but the mountain proved too high to climb and it was Gönyeli who took the vital 3 points. Esentepe’s bad luck with injuries continued as they lost goalkeeper Tuğrul in the 65th minute with what may turn out to be a dislocated shoulder after he collided with a Gönyeli player.

Gönyeli who welcomed the return of Technical Director Ali Vurkan, and trainer Ömer Çetinkaya, to revive their fortunes attracted a large and noisy following. Esentepe now drop to bottom but one in the table and next week’s game home to bottom place Lapta will be “9” pointer match.

Esentepe were without injured star midfielder Vurkan (out for the season), his brother Kaan and Nersin who have picked up 4 yellow cards and missed this match. Salih replaced Nersin in defence and Umar and Emrah replaced Kaan and Vurkan.

After a quiet opening period Gönyeli opened the scoring in the 21st minute, when their left sided midfielder Mustafa Okur outstripped Bariş, and as Esentepe’s captain came over to challenge, Mustafa whipped over a superb cross which found Dervis all alone in the penalty area. The striker had time to knock the ball up with his boot and head the ball past Tuğrul, with not an Esentepe defender near. 1-0.

Gönyeli were much quicker to the ball, and were controlling the midfield. Ahmet Can Temel in particularly was very prominent. It came as no surprise when they increased their lead in the 29th minute with another poorly defended goal conceded by Esentepe. From a throw by the Gönyeli keeper Fahit, Ahmet Can Temel fastened onto the ball on the halfway line where he was not closed down by Esentepe players. The talented midfielder easily side stepped Berkan’s challenge and went on to beat the advancing Tuğrul 2-0.

Esentepe were looking very sluggish and lethargic and another lighting Gonyeli breakaway saw Esentepe’s Emek desperately clear the ball over his own bar. From that resulting corner the impressive Hüseyin volleyed just over at the near post.

Right on the stroke of half-time Esentepe should have pulled a goal back when Ilyas, on the right, did well to cut in and cross the Gönyeli area to seek out Eser completely unmarked, but the striker from only 8 yards out managed to hit the post instead of scoring. HALF-TIME : 2-0.

Coach Gokan Kim at the start of the second half took off defender Bariş and brought on striker Başak, who slotted in behind Eser and Emrah.

But it was Gönyeli who carried on with their first-half form and in the 49th minute Serkan drove a shot from just outside the box completely deceiving a flat footed Tuğrul who was relieved to see the ball go just wide of his far post.

The tide was slowly beginning to turn Esentepe’s way, with Umar in particular on the right striving to get Esentepe going. The mid fielder put in a shot from a clearance that Goalkeeper Fahit needed two attempts to save.

The 57th minute saw Umar put in a mazy run on the right, taking him past three defenders before finding the overlapping Mahmut who put in a fine cross just over the head of the inrushing Emrah.

Esentepe’s pressure was rewarded in the 59th minute when from a long ball into the Gönyeli area by Emek, İlyas and Gonyeli’s Deniz collided in the area, with both players going to ground. Referee Timur Ercan Bodi, despite Gönyeli’sprotests, awarded a penalty which was duly dispatched by the reliable EMEK. 2-1.

At last Esentepe had woken up as they poured men forward in search of the equaliser, but their momentum was cruelly halted when they lost Goalkeeper Tuğrul with a serious injury in the 65th minute. A long clearance from the Gönyelihalf saw Tuğrul rush out of his area to clear the ball just in front of Dervis, but the Gönyeli appeared to leave his leg out which Tuğrul fell over and came crashing down on his shoulder. Tuğrul was obviously in some pain, and play was held up for at least 10 minutes, before eventually he was led off with his shoulder heavily strapped and then on to Hospital. Replacement keeper Serkan took Tuğrul place in goal.

Esentepe kept pressing and in the 75th minute the Gönyeli keeper Fahit did well to dive and push over the bar a lob shot from Başak, after fine work from Mahmut, Emrah and Eser had set him up.

Surprisingly after 75 minutes Umar, who had had a good second half for Esentepe, was replaced by teenager Muhammed.

Gönyeli were now relying on breakaways, as Esentepe continued to dominate. In the 90th minute Muhammed won the ball in midfield and set off on a great run on the right before putting over a cross to the far post, where Başak drove a shot just wide.

With lots of injury time being played Esentepe missed a great chance to equalise when Salih put over a cross that was headed over by Iİyas, and with that chance missed so Esentepe’s hopes died. FULL TIME : 2-1.

SUMMING UP :

It was a case of two halves, Esentepe left it too late and gave themselves too much to do. Gönyeli obviously buoyed by the returning old Coach were very impressive in the first half but Esentepe were very poor. The Esentepe Coach must have thrown some tea cups around at half time as it was a different Esentepe that took to the field but the early damage had been done. Coach Gokan Kim, must feel at present like the Dutch boy, putting his finger in the Dam. Losing 3 of his star players, transferred in the summer and for this match 3 of his better players, he is running out of fingers to plug the leaks. None of the team emerged with any credit in the first half, but Umar rolled his sleeves up and was a danger on the right and Ilyas worked hard in midfield in the second half.
