President Akıncı received Ladsous

President Mustafa Akıncı received the United Nations Deputy Under-Secretary responsible for Peacekeeping Operations Hervé Ladsous and his accompanying delegation.

The Special Representative and Head of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP) Lisa Buttenheim was also present at the meeting which was held at the Presidency.

Negotiators met for a full day

Turkish Cypriot Negotiator Özdil Nami and the Greek Cypriot Negotiator Andreas Mavroyannis met for a full day yesterday within the framework of the Cyprus negotiations.

According to the information received from Presidential Spokesperson Barış Burcu they discussed the property issue.

Burcu also said that the Undersecretary of the Foreign Ministry and the Head of the EU Working Group Erhan Ercin discussed the issue of agriculture with the EU representatives.

Burcu said that they also exchanged views on the procedure of writing the federal laws and worked on the program and discipline to be followed.

Emine Dizdarlı’s appointment as Ombudswoman approved

Judge Emine Dizdarli was officially appointed as Ombudswoman with 27 affirmative votes in the second round of voting in the General Assembly yesterday.

The Law, Political Affairs and Foreign Relations Committee Chairman, UBP Girne Deputy İzlem Gürçağ read the committee report and noted that the committee unanimously decided that Dizdarlı carries the required qualifications.

“European Heritage Award” to be presented to Armenian Church and Monastery

“The European Union Prize for Cultural Heritage / Europa Nostra Awards 2015” is going to be presented to the Armenian Church and Monastery with a ceremony to be held in Lefkoşa.

According to the statement of the European Commission Representation in Cyprus, a special ceremony will be organized at 17:30 at the Armenian Church today.

At the ceremony, the President of the European Commission Representation in Cyprus George Markopouliotis, Europa Nostra Secretary General Sneska Quaedvlieg-Mihailovic, responsible architect for the project of restoration Paolo Vitti, UNDP-ACT representative Christopher Louise and US Ambassador to Cyprus Kathleen Ann Doherty, will make speeches.

According to the statement, Architect Paolo Vitti was awarded the EU Cultural Heritage/Europa Nostra Award on 11 June 2015 in Oslo, Norway at the Municipality Palace. Today’s special event will be held to celebrate the arrival of the award to Cyprus.

Funding for the restoration work was provided by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
