Akıncı’s New York contacts continue
President Mustafa Akıncı’s New York contacts are continuing within the framework of the UN General Council.
Akıncı will meet with the UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon today. Following the meeting, President Akıncı will make a statement and reply to the questions of press members.
Furthermore, Akıncı’s meeting with the Secretary of State John Kerry is expected to be held today.
Today, Akıncı will also meet with the Foreign Minister of Oman Sultanate Yusuf Bin Alawi Bin Abdullah.
Yesterday, Akıncı had a meeting with New Zealand Foreign Minister Murray McCully within the framework of his New York visit.
During the meeting, President Akıncı expressed the sensitivities of the Turkish Cypriot side regarding the negotiation process and also the stage reached at Cyprus negotiations. Foreign Minister Emine Çolak accompanied Akıncı during the meeting.
Yesterday evening, President Akıncı also attended the reception hosted in the honour of Organization of Islamic Cooperation Prime Ministers and Foreign Ministers and exchanged views with the participants from the other states.
Following the reception, Akıncı attended the dinner hosted by Turkish Foreign Minister Feridun Sinirlioğlu.
Akıncı will meet with OIC Secretary General Medeni tomorrow.
Akıncı’s New York contacts will end on 4th October, Sunday.
Çolak met with Foreign Minister of Qatar
Foreign Minister Emine Çolak met with Foreign Minister of Qatar Al Atiyah Khalit Muhammet in New York.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Erhan Erçin and General Director Kemal Köprülü were also present at the meeting which took place between Minister Çolak and Muhammet at the UN Permanent Representative Office of Qatar. Issues such as developing the relations between the two countries, Cyprus problem and the on-going negotiations were discussed at the meeting.
On the other hand, Minister Çolak also met with the Secretary General of the Economic Cooperation Organization, the ex-Turkish Ambassador to Lefkoşa Halil İbrahim Akça.
Foreign Minister Emine Çolak is going to attend the Foreign Ministers Coordination Meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in New York and she will make a speech there.
Republic’s Assembly started its new legislative year
TRNC Assembly started its new legislative year after the summer holiday yesterday.
The first meeting of the Republic’s Assembly was held under the presidency of Deputy Speaker Ünal Üstel.
Ünal Üstel who made the opening speech of the Assembly stated that they started the new legislative year and emphasized that they will work effectively in order to enact laws which the public expect at the new session.
In his turn Prime Minister Ömer Kalyoncu emphasized that they will be a reform government in the new session and they will work in order to prosper the public, develop the economy, enhance the quality of life and prosper the employees.
