TRNC Cricket Association has a

new artificial pitch and a bright future

Sunday 12th July the TRNC Cricket Association were celebrating the arrival from England of their new artificial pitch.

Pitch Manager Tad Haigh explained, the Association TRNC Ladies Cricket Captain Hale Silifkeli and TRNC Cricket Association Chairman Nigel Holmanhad been delighted that hot on the heels of international recognition had come the offer of funding for a UK manufactured Flicx pitch. Which, being a kind of plastic jig-saw puzzle design was ideal for laying on uneven football pitches to create a decent cricket surface.

Association Chairman Nigel Holman wanted to particularly thank honorary member Aşkın Ibrahim whose introductions and tireless work had made it possible. Especially, the way he generated the enthusiastic support of both the Sports and Finance Ministries in guiding us through the complicated import license and duty exemption procedures.  Holman stressed it had been a team effort with Treasurer Paula Shirley dealing with Dolphin Movers and Dağlı Sigorta to ensure all was well on the pitches’ 2 month journey to Girne.

Richard Boxall, secretary of the South Cyprus Cricket Association said, we are happy to have been able to help facilitate this project, and we look forward to continuing our good working relationship with TRNC Cricket Association in developing cricket throughout the island.

Cricket returns to North Cyprus in September, with an expanded league taking advantage of the extra pitch. Details will be announced nearer the time.
