Work set to begin on new Airport

in North Cyprus

Ercan Airport_2The Turkish army have vacated their base next to Ercan (Tymbou) airport as preparation for re-construction gets underway.

Plans are afoot for a new terminal building and two runways with the capacity to serve 2.5 million travellers a year.

The undersecretary of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, Suat Yeldener, said that the projects for the construction of the new terminal had been submitted and are being examined.

He said that after seeing whether they are in harmony with the contract, the construction will begin, adding that no obstacle was left.

Yeldener said that together with the terminal building, other projects were being examined including a runway, an apron, a pick up spot for taxis and a tunnel.
