Two young students from ESK, who helped at the EFRAR 2015, received Tulips certificates from Art Watson, Chairman of EFRAR recently. The Esentepe Fun Run and Ramble 2015 was held to raise funds for Help Those With Cancer Association (Tulips).
Nicol Kuburoğlu of Ozankőy and Defne Kansu of Girne both aged 15 and in year 10 of the English School of Kyrenia are doing their Duke of Edinburgh Award which was introduced to North Cyprus only last year.
Both girls are doing the Bronze Award which they started last November and hope to start on their Silver Award this September.
In order to complete their Bronze they have to do 3 months of a physical activity such as football or basketball, 3 months of a skill such as chess or first aid and also 6 months of their major option such as beach cleaning, helping a local charity and administration at the Model United Nations Conference. They have both also completed a 2 day hiking trip to Tatlisu, helping to supervise younger, Year 4 ESK pupils.
Both girls were excited to receive their certificates which will go in their portfolios to be submitted for their Bronze Award. They said: “We were happy to help at the Fun Run as we met so many people and it was something very different for us.
Art Watson, Chairman of the committee commented: “This was a win-win situation as we had two young volunteers on the day and they gained valuable experience in dealing with people and situations. We hope we can help ESK and the scheme by having more volunteers in 2016”.
