Akıncı: “It is time to show will and political determination for both sides”
President Mustafa Akıncı emphasized that in order to conclude the negotiation process in 2015 which started in 1968, it is time to show will and political determination for both sides. In his speech after receiving Speaker of the Assembly Sibel Siber, President Akıncı said that he will establish an interactive dialogue with the assembly and non-governmental organizations during the negotiation process and it will be done as soon as possible. He also said that he was elected as President in a difficult period when the expectations of the community are so high, “if the expectations are high, they become heavier as well. Difficulties are increasing evenly.”
President Mustafa Akıncı pointed out that the dinner was a “good start” with the leader of the Greek Cypriot Administration. Akıncı also said that he will inform the community in every step and he asked positive contribution of the press on both sides to the process. President Akıncı emphasized that it is time for a solution and he continued: “We want to conclude the negotiation process in 2015 which started in 1968. It means we are talking about half a century. That’s why; I believe that we negotiated about everything substantially at this stage. Of course we will do more. There are some uncertain points. It is no doubt we will discuss them as well, but as a result it is time to show will and political determination for both sides.”
Çavuşoğlu: “We have determination about encouragement of both sides and the leaders as Turkey and Greece”
Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Cavuşoğlu and Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Kocias met in Ankara yesterday. They discussed the Cyprus issue at the meeting as well. Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu stated that they have determination about encouragement of both sides and the leaders as Turkey and Greece on the Cyprus issue, “we should help them” he said. Underlining in his speech during a joint press meeting that the common will is available for a settlement on the Cyprus problem Cavusoglu continued: “The resumption of negotiations is an important development. We have the will for a settlement in Cyprus under the common declaration with both of the leaders on 11th February, 2014. I would like to express my belief that we will reach a permanent solution this year, if the Greek Cypriots and Greece have a similar will.”
Volkan Bozkır is hopeful about Cyprus negotiations which will start on Friday
Turkish Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Volkan Bozkir is hopeful about the Cyprus negotiations which will start on Friday, stating that “Solving the Cyprus problem became easier than solving the issue of Syria and Ukraine” he said.
He also mentioned that he is so hopeful about resumption of the negotiations, “Parameters are clear. I think it will be solved this year. We have 17 chapters in front of us.”
German Foreign Minister Steinmeier said he appreciates resumption of negotiations in Cyprus
German Foreign Minister Steinmeier said he appreciates resumption of negotiations in Cyprus. In a written statement made by the German Foreign Ministry, Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier said that the new steps taken by the TRNC President Akıncı and the Greek Cypriot leader Anastasiades increased hopes for a solution and ending the division.
Steinmeier indicated that Germany will spend efforts for the solution of the Cyprus problem together with the international partners.
Sertoğlu submits new CTFF regulation to Prime Minister
During the reception, Sertoğlu submitted the new CTFF Regulation to Prime Minister Özkan Yorgancıoğlu.
Yorgancıoğlu said that such a cooperation should be considered as a confidence building measure, adding that 38 clubs approving the regulation is an important indicator. Yorgancıoğlu also added that we should trust the organizations.
Furthermore, stating that he will do whatever is necessary for the Council of Ministers process, Yorgancıoğlu said that a new process has started in the Cyprus negotiations and such a cooperation should be seen as a confidence building measure.
Turkish Cypriot week has started in Kyrgyzstan
It was stated that foreign mission representatives, Kyrgzstan Türkiye Manas University Rectorship, authorities of Ahiska and Azerbaijan Turkish Associations, Turkish and Kirgiz businessmen, students and many guests attended the activity.
TRNC Bishkek Representative Dr. Tayseer Al-Sahanableh said that they aimed to bring the two people together who have been separated for centuries.
Greek Cypriots spend the greatest amount of money at hotels in TRNC
Greek Cypriot Fileleftheros newspapers noted that in April, 172.772 euros were paid to the hotels in the TRNC.
Fileleftheros also noted that Greek Cypriots spent 477.639 euros at the casinos in the TRNC.
Protest to be held on Saturday
“Mağusa Initiative” activist Mertkan Hamit stated that they will make a protest on Saturday between 10:00-11:00 at Derinya Crossing point to demand the opening of Derinya gate. Hamit made a call to the citizens of Mağusa to participate in the protest.
In his written statement, Hamit said that opening of Derinya gate will shorten the distances, intensify the inter-communal relations and allow the tradesmen to market their goods and services in an easier way. Furthermore, Hamit underlined that recently, United Nations Human Rights Committee supported opening of crossing points in Cyprus, stressing that increasing the number of crossing points will make positive contribution to inter-communal dialogue and confidence.
