Little Society of Kyrenia (LSOK)

Still making a difference

By Margaret Sheard…..

There is a small organisation which. although keeping a very low profile, does so much for the young generation of North Cyprus.  This is the Little Society of Kyrenia (LSOK) and we have LSOK imagereceived news of some of their achievements over the past year which we would like to pass on to our readers.

Over the last year LSOK have donated  thousands of lira to various causes that have contributed towards the health, welfare or education of children. These have included arranging trips for children at the orphanage in Lefkosa, sponsoring educational projects for a school in the Karpaz and funding equipment and a projector for CESV to support first aid training for young people.

And ……. they continue to do so.  Mary Watson from LSOK  said “we are happy to consider any project that helps children, especially those from under privileged backgrounds, and often it doesn’t take a great deal of money to make a real difference”

It is important that children who are ill have some fun, so over the Toy Boxpast 3 months LSOK have donated 5,000TL  to the state hospital in Girne for children’s toys, to ensure that every child who goes into hospital has a new toy, suited to their age, which they can play with during their stay.  They have also bought a TV for the Tulips – Help Those with Cancer – school so that sick children at the school awaiting treatment can be kept entertained, together with their parents who often spend all day at the school.

Health is another priority and LSOK have recently appointed 2 physiotherapists for the Special Needs School in Karakum and continue to support the speech therapist there.

This year sees the start of an exciting new educational project which will continue to improve children’s lives.

Keep up the good work LSOK, you are doing a tremendous job.
